    Differences in ABY ECU harnesses?

    Gents

As part of my perpetual conversion of a 7a Coupe to an ersatz S2, I had originally planning to run the 3b ECU with a S2 3B harness...

Now however, I've decided to "ditch the dizzy", go straight to an AAN ECU ignition system as a path to VEMs. I currently have an AAN ECU and an AAN Harness, and was perhaps looking to using an ABY ECU harness to make the conversion into an type 89 Chassis easier.

Other than the LHD/RHD differences, I was told that there are differences with the ABY harnesses...

I searched S2 central and could not find the differences...
What is (are) the differences and what would need to be done to the (different) harness to make it work in an type 89 Coupe Quattro?

    Thanks!!!

the main difference is that the aby mostly plugs into the coupe fusebox, the aan doesnt have the right connections on it.Its very different when you have them side by side.Aby would make it much easier/neater.

      HI

for your purpose there is a difference that makes an impact. the differenece is ignition where 2 wires are in the opposite positions on the harnes plug. this wont matter though as you are using full AAN harness and ECU. either way oyu can get around it in software.

Thanks, but I was told by someone on one of the german forums that there are different ABY harnesses - evidently with and without an immobilizer...How does one bypass/eliminate the immobilizer ?

I think this can be done by modifying with chip tuner or maybe vagcom

            Ok, thanks for the feedback....

Now that I have more information after looking in to searching the S2 forum archives...
I _think_ that an AAN ECU without immobilizer will not care whether it has an immobilizer ECU harness or not, i.e. you can not use an immobizer ECU (without some modification) in a non immobilizer equipped S2...

Can someone (Paul N?) confirm this ?

I am very appreciative of the information this forum has provided those of us in the states trying to build our own S2s, since we never had the privilege to purchase them new ourselves...I enjoy contributing when I can, but typically can do that when it comes to my experiences with the Type 89, 44 and C4....

my ABY has the immobiliser. dont quote me but the immobiliser is in the ECU and the clocks. when you replace the ECU with vems the imobiliser is gone.

one tip. dont let the little transponders that come with some alarms escape like i did. it makes you think you have a broken car.

What I know is that AAN engines ofc have different placements for fusebox and some other temp sensors, but connectorwise the harness is the "same" But different locations. But that has been stated in this thread earlier, however me beeing a posthunter , + 1 for me.
