Mine averages 19-20 too, 22 on a decent run cruising

You must drive like a Nun! I've seen mids 20s on a cruise, Leeds to Bristol in 2 hours saw 24mpg and return trip to the 'ring at European cruising speed was 21mpg including 10 laps
. But I've been seeing 16mpg more recently as I just drive around the city or pop out for a thrash and as I drive so rarely I just love the woosh of the DV and acceleration at WOT so usually give it abit more throttle than is required
. Track days usually see about 8mpg to 10mpg, hence the 20% increase
Normal life is the same as others on here 18-22 every day, 22-28 on a cruise.

My S6 does 22-23 on a daily basis stuck in traffic but on a motorway at 85(ish) it rises to a massive 27-28mpg....
Would love to get an increase in mpg to 'perhaps' 30mpg on a run when it's homefried in the next couple of weeks... If I do see 30mpg it will make my year...
My wife has a Honda CRV which only does 30mpg and is a lifeless 1.6 that struggles to skin rice pudding. To have a German tank that eats most things on the road and still has the same fuel economy as her cereal packet on wheels would be great. It might even convince her to get an S2 Avant with enough pressure from me...Comment

The homefries club is one I seriously need to join very soon. Once some pipework that can take that little bit extra boost has been installed.

Yeah, get ALL the pipework replaced, new clamps, cable ties on the small stuff. It makes all the difference
If I had to assign my higher than average output to anything it would be having everything airtight, including the breather system! A boost test bung is the best bit of kit ever, allowing everything to be tested as one.

I'll probably contacting Paul soon myself. I've pretty much decided to ditch the AmD set-up on the Avant. Especially as it seems to have a check-sum error. It drives well enough, apart from a possible boost leak issue, but feels more like a big turbo diesel than it really should.
Though I'm getting an indicated 22mpg around town and an easy 30 on a long run, which isn't too shabby by all accounts!
I'll need to give everything a thorough check over, but I've got my Samco's ordered and have a standard wastegate spring to re-fit and set when I do 'the change' (which may be easier when the VDO boost gauge is fitted).Comment

Since I had my RS2 spec remapped I get around 20mpg if I'm lucky. I only drive it to work and back on Fridays and the odd blast at weekends though.
Come to think of it that's twice as good as the Range Rover and I use that as my daily driver
Although even at 10mpg it's only £30 a week in LPG

I've tried the odd tank of Optimax and found the difference hard to detect. The only time I go to 98 is when we've got a heatwave on and the OAT is getting above 25+. If it's hot outside, on regular unleaded and you pull past a run of cars in 4th - as I did Wednesday crossing Salisbury Plain, 6 of them in a row I think
- as the revs rise you can sense the boost/timing being brought in and out by Motronic and Paul's chips but there's still plenty of power with the Homefires advantage
I'll try some more definative tests on 98 once I've got a good few miles on the Homefries with regular unleaded and we're in that Summer heatwave that'll have the global warming folks telling us we're all doomed
but before Homefries I never got a real improvement on 98 to justify using 98 on an increased mpg basis.

Yes, I know, everyone says that but it's just that I haven't found it in my case, except as I say in hot weather.
We need Paul's help here, but I assume the benefit from 98 comes from Motronic being able to advance the timing before knock (or more specifically hold on to timing advance before retarding driven by the knock sensors) and possibly lean the mixture a tad in response to the lamda probe feedback with 98 fuel. That explains more power and smoothness from 98 but I can't see how it would affect mpg much.Comment

sure there is a factory differential of circa 10-20% when it detects 95 or 98 on the ecu so it should be noticeable. I know mine seems to run much better on Super, though how much better depends on the variety.....Tesco is the better feeling one though Optimax is pretty good too.sigpic
