    RS2 Upgrade?!

    Hi,

Very tempted to squeeze some more horses out of my Rs2,Turbo and injectors maybe.....At the mo it is standard apart from a day trip to MRC,and with some Doug wizardry the turbo is preducing 1.9 bar
Can anybody point me in the right direction for the best next upgrade without having to do any internal mods?
Also what sort of cost am i looking at?
    Many thanks James

    Hi James,

I'm pleased you liked the MRC remap. I'm interested to learn more about your 1.9 bar boost. I think my car hits 1.7 bar in certain gears/rpm ranges before dropping back to more normal to 1.5 bar.

I wonder what sort of bhp/torque figures you'll be getting with 1.9 bar?

    Cheers
    RS2+ (now sold...)

1.9 bar thats seems a bit excessive to me. I'd be inclined to put some money by for new rods...(and sell me your injectors )

You wont get anymore out of it to be honest, turbo is near the limit of boost especially on stock internals.

To squeeze more you'll be looking at cams, exhaust, headporting.

You'd be better saving for a bigger turbo if you really want more bhp as it maybe cheaper long term.

Yes its peaking at 1.9 bar!!!!! seems very happy at that......and also goes like the clappers when Doug remapped it he found that the car had already been chipped with a s6 chip????? unusual:
we also have de cat the car.
Do you think i should leave it as it is? just fancy more again!!!!!

The 1.9bar is the MRC high boost chips. I have these in my Avant now and it's perfectly happy with the abuse I give it.
Not sure on power output but it definately has more torque and getting boost below 3500rpm makes it a lot more driveable.

You'll struggle to get alot more out of it without mapping it to within an inch of it's life. As has been suggested it would be
far better to save funds for a bigegr turbo and some internal mods.

Depends on your pocket really, if you haven't got one, get a 3" downpipe and exhaust system with sports cat.

It makes a hell of a difference.

@ Jamo, if you uprated the rods, what is max theoretical torque/power from the RS2 turbo?

That's good to know... I think I would like 1.9 bar over boost too

is 1.7 bar normal boost with the new map?

@ 2 bar & over on the RS2 producing roughly 400 bhp however the turbo life will be reduced and will fail maybe even as early as 1 year.

Hence my quote about consider a bigger turbo, a 3071r would be the logical upgrade to an RS2 the trade off is the 3071r does not produce as much torque and is softer off boost however the bhp and topend are better.

You need to work on the efficiency of the inlet and exhaust (as Jamo said).

I think the Samco hoses are a good option, especially the MAF to turbo one.
Better DV might be a plan but that's only going to make a difference if the old one is weak.
3" turbo back exhaust is worth a bit over standard.
Larger IC with reverse inlet reduces inlet tract length, stops the charge going over the exhaust manifold and looks .
Ported head and some cams are the last thing I'd look at.
Upgraded EM althought the RS2 item is fine for what you've got.

It won't get you more power but a lighter 3B flywheel and Sachs clutch is a nice mod, makes what you do have much more willing to rev and a bit rougher round the edges.

Oh, there's also the train of thought that says better brakes mean you can use what you have to better effect so perhaps some DS2500 pads and nice discs?

I think I've just spent about £5k of your money there

Turbo rebuild with 360deg thrust bearing is a good plan if you're pushing things a bit more than you should.

Sounds like you need a co pilot James best way to check your max boost level... find a bit of a hill... 4th gear load it up a bit and see what you get then sure that gauge is fitted properly let us know
