    K24 bearings..

Can somebody fill me in on the 360 degree bearings for the K24. I remember somebody talking about them before but cant find the post. Are they a direct replacement or do they require modification?

I queried AET about them and got the following reply,

"With regards to the 360 deg bearing, the unit I quoted you on was for standard. If you wanted your turbo fitting with Stage 1 upgrade 360 deg bearing & total seal piston rings the cost would be an extra £100.00+vat onto the bill"

Does an additional £100 sound right? And what have total seal piston rings got to do with it

Well I bought a rebuild kit from Melett. It should be on the RS2 turbo naked thread somewhere. I don't think that its needs any modifications to fit as it slips over the two retaining dowels.
A total seal ring has no end gap. The middle section slides inbetween the outer to give a full 360 degree seal.

That sounds very suspect to me as the price difference between a standard bearing and a 360 degree bearing is only a few pounds

I can't remember exactly but I think the cost of the whole kit including the shaft bearings, 360 thrust, seals and bolts was approximately 2/3rds of that quoted price! Would have to agree. I can't see where the price differential comes from. To be honest I am surprised its not fitted as a more durable replacement.
Having said that we don't know the cost of the Total seal or what modification are necessary to fit it or indeed what end it goes, compressor or turbine!

Thanks twoqu, thats the thread i was thinking of.

I was quoted £250 to recondition with new seals and bearings. That part sounds right, god knows where "total seal piston rings" came from

Is the center section the same on an RS2 turbo, or are they K26 parts? Maybe i got my wires crossed and this isn't applicable for the standard S2 K24.

I got quoted about an extra £50 to have a 360deg bearing from Turbo Dynamics. They also mentioned the oprion of having a larger compressor wheel.

S2. TD wanted £195 for a basic rebuild. I saw no point in a larger compressor as it would require a custom remap and if I was going to get one of those then I'd go the whole hog

From memory that was +Vodka and Tonic and was assuming that no replacement parts were required for the turbo you send them. AET will do you an exchage unit for a little more, I spoke to BRY about this and he got me some prices nice and fast.
