low leval sensor in the exspantion tank

Do's the sensor in the bottom of the expansion tank, do anything Other than send a warning of low coolant to the auto check window. My sons 20v has a problem where the light on the dash comes on from time to time for no apparent reason,no low level and its not getting hot.I know the mfts and the the one on the back of the head both send a link to the ECU, but what about the low level sensor.

    RE: Low level sensor problem..........

It seems alot of B3/B4 cars suffer this problem. When the coolant bottle is old or new it does not matter. It may be a bad batch???? But I've personally run into this problem in both V6 and DOHC5 cars. The float sticks and give a bad reading. Even getting a new bottle, odds are you will get a sticking float. The only thing I can suggest is to fill the bottle to the very top with good coolant let it sit for a couple of days until the float is fully saturated and then drain it and install. Worked for me.
