    Very high oil temperature

Hi, my first problem with my car.
So after a 40km trip, with very mild driving i stopped the car, had a look at the oil temperature gauge, very high about 140 (the sign betwwen 130- 170,and the idle oil pressure, dropped to about 1-1.2 bar, from the ussual 1.8-2warm) but was fluctuating, not steady dont know why, beacause 3 minutes before i stood about 10 minutes, to a stop light and was fine. So i drove about 3km slowly, the temerature came down to 90, i stopped turned off engine, checked the oil level, (Motul 10w-40), i put in about 0.5l, as it was in the lower side of the stick. I waited for the car to cool down, about 20min, and have a second go, drove it quit hard, revving, not speeding, the oil was ok bellow 130, then in a matter of second jumped to over 130 (the same sign 140 i quesse), turned down the revvs, and the oil cooled down. Water temperature does not exceded 90degrees.
It can be , oil temperature sensor or the oil thermostat, ? i dit over 2000km with the car, and it is firts time when happens.

i have never seen such fluctuations before.I can only comment that when my oil temp went up,both the pressure went down AND water temp went UP as well.
If it is a sensor malfunction, then why is the oil pressure going low as well?

I had high oil temp problems before I changed my oil cooler. Check that you don't have anything blocking it. It is all too easy to have leaves etc in the duct for the oil cooler. You need to take the lower bumpre grille off to access the oil cooler.

Either that or your oil temp gauge is not working properly...

        Cheers,

        Steve.

Checked , the problem i think it was the front oil cooler grill which i dont think was the original one, as there was no room for air to enter, i took it down and checked the oil cooler, full of bugs , i'll give it a clean, an maybe upgrade it to a bigger one just in case found a cheap one

          pret: 260 RON
          Radiator de ulei 25 randuri
          Dimensiune totala: 330x215x50mm
          Dimensiune radiator: 290x190x50mm
          Conector: 3/4" 16 UNF tata

          translated about 70euros
          rows : 25
          total size 330x215x50

check if there is space to fit a 25 row.it is going to be difficult
a 16 row will also do a better job

bad news, the autochek red oil light, came on, was about 2500-3000rpm checked oil pressure, about 4 bars, turnd off the car, checked oil, was ok, smell it, no strange smells (gas), restart engine, all fine driver carefully, no problmes , so WTF? it is possible that the oil suffer from high temperature (140) ? , or the sender, as i saw some oils leaks on engine, but on the intake side ? oil pressure idlle - 1.8-2 or close, 4-5 on revs

it could be a sensor malfunction thinking that there is oil starvation of some sort.i dont know if the oil temp sensor is somehow wired to the cluster giving it a signal that there is a trouble there.probably is.
it is best to change the oil temperature sensor and see how it goes.I think your oil pressure sensor is fine

try tapping the gauge and see if it goes back to normal,i have the identical fault on my a6 tdi.Sometimes it can go as high as 170'c but water temp is always at 90'c.
