Help! Auxiliary rad bother.

I found the easiest way to bleed the system was to undo the bleed screw on the main rad and the heater matrix hose, then undo the three screws holding the expansion tank in. Fill the expansion tank with some G12/water mix and lift up the expansion tank (I rested mine on the ABS pump) until water comes out of both bleed screws. Refit expansion tank and top up as necessary. Do this cold with the engine off. Easy.1994 Audi S2 Avant - in pieces

******, I've just bought one off another forum member. Oh well. I'm on nights this weekend so I might make some bungs and see how it goes, and keep the aux. rad in case I need it spare.
Just a few final questions to end this,
Before I ballsed the coolant system up today, my engine temp was around 70-75C in normal running, then it would reach 80-90 when stopping for light traffic, such as busy junctions or traffic lights or when sitting to let the turbo "cool off". In heavy traffic, it would climb to about 93ish, but the fan would cut in about every 30 seconds. Does this sound alright?
Also, how do I bleed the system through once I'm sorted?
Cheers,

Sorry Shark, I posted my question before I realised you'd already answered it.
That sounds easy, a Rover K-series is a nightmare to do, was expecting this to be similar.
Will that flush the horrible rusty cack out my cooling system too?

Certainly the last bit sounds right. Mine sits 1 or 2 marks below 90 during normal running and then when the first stage of the fan kicks in at just over 90 it will cycle in and out fairly often, certainly once a minute....

I ran an S2 with and without an Aux Rad.
It certainly doesn't affect the cars temp without it but if you traffic drive in your car you maybe better off keeping the Aux Rad.
On a long drive i.e A road or motorway you couldn't notice a difference as the airflow was good enough to keep temps down. Sitting in traffic the fan came on about 2-3 times more without the Aux rad.
I've kept the one on my current S2 but planning to get a larage Ali rad and then I will remove the Aux rad.Comment

Thanks Steve and Jamo. I do more driving in traffic than motorway, fast road etc. so I think it would be more beneficial to keep it there.
Got a second hand one on its way now anyway

If you want to flush the system out then I guess you'll have to run something through the system. This isn't something I've done as I removed the aux rad, changed the main rad and the water pump all in one hit, so there can't have been that much water and crap left in there! I've heard caustic soda mentioned but the procedure for doing a flush I'm not sure about..
If you want to drain most of what you have in there out, then remove the bottom rad hose and the expansion tank cap, and you'll get rid of most of the water that way. If I hadn't changed my rad I think I'd have done a flush as well.1994 Audi S2 Avant - in pieces

I guess I'm just being fussy if I want nice colour coolant, it was rusty before but I think it worked ok.
By the way, what was that G12/Water mix you mentioned before? What is G12 and where do you get it from?
