3B / ABY Engine mount difference?

Can anybody shed some light into why the engine mounts of a 3B and ABY are different?

I'm aware the ABY mounts are slotted, my question is thus:

Is the difference in the mounts due to the ABY having a dual mass flywheel and the gearbox spacer therefore the engine moves foward?

If so if any ABY was running a single mass flywheel and no spacer could the 3B positioned engine mounts be installed?

If you've converted from dual to single how have address the engine mount issue?

Reason I am asking is I'm planning to run non standard engine mounts aand there are a couple of options for the 3B and only the 034 motorsport options for the ABY which I will not run as they will be too harsh for my personal preference

Andy Casey discussed this when he did his single mass flywheel conversion I think...

David in Dublin posted about this, as far as i know the only difference is the location of the two mounting holes.

Yeh I've seen the two sde by side but I have no 3B experience so anybody that has gone from dual to single mass and used 3B mounts?

I'm aware of the difference I point it out to various members what I really need to find out is why is there a difference?

It's a straight choice between Anle's or the 034 density motor mounts although both are for the 3B

The difference between the ABY offset mount and the 3B regular mount (not offset AFAIK) lies in the chassis. the legs coming from the chassis on the ABY are shorter. Hense the need for an offset mount (to reach the leg on the engine). I found this when putting an ABY engine into my CQ. i had to use the CQ engine mount not the ABY mount as the CQ ones matched my chassis.

Now we are getting somewhere, so it's to do with the chassis

                You mean...

these bits are different between ABY and 3B?

                Can someone check the FA?

Are the legs on the engine the same size for 3B and ABY?

                        My limited understanding is that

the 3b engine mounts have the bolt holes at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions, but that the ABY engine mounts have the bolt holes slightly offset, at say at 1 and 5 o'clock.

034 sent myself 3b ones twice when I'd said the car was an ABY. It appears they only do S2 3b ones and not S2 ABY ones, but their site does not make this distinction, i.e. it says S2 only and does not indicate any difference between a 3b S2 and an ABY S2, and so I couldn't get what I was looking for.

To be honest, I see there is now a disclaimer at at the end of the text on this page. I don't know if it was there when I ordered the mounts, but if you have an ABY it appears that you will need to wait? see their stipulation pasted below.

"Note, some non-US cars use an offset-style mount, these will not fit that application, we will have those available soon".

The first set I ordered by mistake were race density, and so I ordered a second set in street density before I found out about the 3b / ABY distinction.

Their gearbox mounts were fine, their front snubber engine mount is very good.

                        HTH a bit?

                        Kind regards.

I had the same problem that I ordered the Street density Engine mounts for my ABY a long time ago and was offered to send back the mounts by Javad. I mentioned at ordering I had an ABY engine, but they did not know there was a difference between 3B and ABY offset (I forgive them since they have no ABYs in the US). Since that time they have the disclaimer at the bottom of that page....... still not clear enough I would say for ABY users.

I kept the engine mounts and thought maybe I can figure out a way to fit them properly, or re-sell them to a 3B owner here in NL.

Let's hope the right ABY street density engine mounts will be available soon.

The disclaimer has been there since release.

I asked on Motorgeeks forum ages ago and Corey has a thread on here stating they don't fit ABY cars in the Quattronics section.

Javad responded saying they were in development last year, i've posted again on motorgeek yesterday asking when they'll be released.

It seems the difference is the chassis which has screwed my ideas.

Just to let you guys know, 034 probably could make the lower density mounts for the ABY as the motorsport ones definately fit both. The ones i have on my car have two sets of holes at one end, one for 3b and one for aby.
