    wastegate

Just looking for some info on wastegate sizing from peep's with expirience.

Im in the process of building a moderate powered S2, 450-500bhp and was wandering what size wastegate to go for as there is no definete answer to this as there are so many decicive factors, flow, pressure, displacement, turbo size etc....

Im thinking of the turbosmart ultra-gate 38mm, or should i opt for a 44mm or even a 50mm.

    Any thought's
Probably the longet S2 project in history EVER!

Lol, i'm no expert, but after alot of reading and talking I ended up buying the Tail 44mm wastegate. It's suposed to control the boost much more safe than the oem wg clock, and as the oem one can easily create boostspikes when operating in the 450-500 bhp barrier (supposedly). I dont know this for 100% sure, but I thught id upgrade the whole lot to match eachother components rather than just an "turbo switch", and to make sure i dont get any uncontrolled boost during my "inspirational meditational driving"
Thats mainly the reason I did go for that WG. Still awaiting to test it..

Some peeps also claim the oem WG clock is good for up to 600bhp, so there is alot of diffrent views and opinions out there. It can probobly be discussed until one gets green

In the end its better to be safe than sorry, right?!

Read Javad's comments on wastegates on 034 / Motorgeeks.

The bigger the wastegate the harder it is to do finite boost control, however there comes a point when the wastegate is too small to bypass enough exhaust gass to keep the boost level down.

THe stock item is good enough IMO for most application using a RS2 / SQ manifold.

          The

original one, is used in some 600+engines in Norway and sweden. So i think it will do nicely, just give it som tlc..

Standard WG to 600bhp? Mmmmmm...... ok so i should be ok with standard WG then.

I'll try and find it, he talks about the waste gate sizes and that around 40-42mm is the optimum size in his opinion.
