    Morning all...

    Well...wow, what a response!
Firstly, my wastegate is un modified and has not been tampered with at all. There is no screw in the top and after taking it off the car and dismatling it I have found that the Wastegate diaphragm is in near perfect condition.
The centre nut i undid (when I broke the piston type cup thing that sits underneath it, was the one you see when you remove the wastegate cap. this is the part I now need to replace....if anyone has one.
Just ordered and spanking new WGFV just to make sure, although tried a spare I had and one from my dads UR quattro....think its the same.
Need the bit for the wastegate then am going to put it all back together and pray!
Cant think of anything else to look for....gonna have to take it to my local Mr Bosch in Norwich

    Cheers

    James

      Hello again guys

Same old story....Since my last post I have checked/changed ALL hoses and bought a brand spanking new WGFV and new wastegate diaphragm, not too mention a new MAF about 3 months ago.
I am still getting overboost protection and the code 2224.
This surely means a leak of some kind, but where?
Pressurised the system and no leaks at all.

Is it worth throwing my ABY in the bin?

PLEASE help, Is there anything else I have missed....?

      Cheers

      James

i had something like this and it was the water sensor on the side of the block but i think there was a light on the dash to when this failed.water light. changed it and still had the problem but it turned out to be a faulty sensor so it was third time lucky, but yeah it solved one of my most annoying problems. a bit like what you discribe. but there is a few posts on here about the problems this causes..canny remember the part name but sometimes it has three pins and sometimes four.

              By-pass, map hose or map.

Faulty MFTS do not generate overboost faultcode.

Thanks for the info guys....could the map in the ecu be faulty....?

Also...would a faulty coil pack of boot give you the 2224 code or trigger overboost protection as boost rises?

Right.....Need someone to clarify something for me if they could

Still got the same problem.....code 2224 and overboost protection ALL the time, but just fitted my boost guage into the line that goes to the ecu and took the car up the road.... I still obviously get Overboost protection kicking in.....but....boost levels are up to 1.5 bar and that just regular 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear stuff, makes no difference when asked to overboost in 4th (WOT @ 2000rpm)

                  What does this tell me....?

Leak tested when I got it back to the workshop and not a sound from anywhere at 1bar pressure.....

Please help guys...I have had the car 4 months now and its never run even near to as it should and its really getting me down

                  James

Have you checked and double checked all of the pipes to the WGFV are in their correct places?
(Excuse me if you have, I didnt check through the whole thread again)

Might be worth getting at the ecu to see whether anybody has been in there. You can only change the maps by physically opening the ecu. Look for tell tale marks around the tabs that hold the ecu cover onto the back of the ecu.

Hi dest....Yep checked wgfv pipes and fitted a spanking new wgvf
My next job is to have a look at the ecu to see whether anyone has had it chipped...will have a look in the morning.
If it has not been chipped, why would the boost readings be so high?

Paul is the man for that, but 1.5bar does sound too high for it not to of been chipped!
Have you driven it with the WGFV disconnected to see what mechanical boost it is running?

Again....will have to try that in the morning, read it on here earlier and sounded like a good idea so will unplug it and see what happens. Am I right in thinking it should only read about 0.4 bar max....?

Yeah, should see 0.4bar with it disconnected, that should help rule out the wastegate
