I will be turboing my 7A very soon....well its actually a 7A block with a 3b head(even though 7A and 3B heads are the same except for water manifold). The block has about 100k miles on it, and I will be rebuilding the head with new valves, springs, and lifters. I am basically doing a 3b conversion...staying with the dizzy, and basically making my 7A look like a 3b.
Ok, so this is the main thing to keep in mind, I only want to get ~300bhp.
So knowign this, I will be sticking with 034s CR dropping head gasket. Since the block only has 100k on it, the bottom end should be very strong and definitely reliable. I will most likely be using a stock k24 and manifold. I know that 300bhp is about the limit for this manifold and turbo, so anywhere around 300bhp is plenty for me. I really only have 2 main questions......
(1)But, one of my first questions regards the turbo. Since I will be basically maxing out my turbo.....is this not so much of a good idea to do so? I will be taking my coupe down to school(10 hours away) and will use it for my daily driver. Would it maybe be a better precaution to source a better k26-flange turbo which can handle more than 300hp? That way, since I do not really want more than 300hp, I really won't be stressing the tirbo too much. Any insight on this is greatly appreciated.
(2)I will be using a stock WG, stock manifold and 3" 034 DP, and k26 flange turbo....so this means everythign will be in the stock placement as any 3b,aby, or adu engine. One of the few differences between the 7a block and the 3b is the arrangement of the A/C compressor and the Alternator. On a 7A, the A/C compressor is on the exhaust manifold side and the alternator is on the radiator side. On a 3b, it is the exact opposite. So knowing this, I figure that I should not have any fitment issues at all. But just from reading around, I hear some people say the A/C compressor gets in the way...but some people say it really doesnt. I know that the A/C accummulator(or condensor....LMAO i forget what the name is for that cylindrical shaped thing) sits in the far front corner of the exhaust side...so maybe those hard lines get in the way of the turbo assembly. I would like to use a stock 3b oil cooler, and a stock 3b intercooler+Xmember. So the main question is, what will be my fitment issues? Of course I will never truley know the specifics until I drop the motor in and start assembling...but its always good to know as much as possible before hand. I really do not want to delete my A/C...and going to school in North Carolina means that I will need my A/C. So there is no option to get rid of the A/C.
At this point in my project, these are really the only 2 things bugging me right now and I would love to hear some opinions/ideas/concerns, etc.
Thanks in advance!!!
