If its a poor quality it will crack, and have heard this one is not worth the money. You generally only get what you pay for with these items. Better with RS2 version me thinks.

          .

Still wouldn't use a ss manifold...whoever made it without a damn big turbo support bracket.

I have a wagner. been in use for around 12 months. you need to suport them . as i wind up my support you can see the turbo being picked up. so far no cracks. i dont agree that ss is only race and track. do you still have a mild steel exhaust? not many do. therte is no difference between a system and a manifold as long as its has the correct bracing or in teh case of a system good engine mounts and a flexy.

i have wrapped and sprayed mine too. it helps retaining heat. ensure oyu re-wrap every couple of years or expect a fire at some point (im speaking from experience of 3 fires and not with my audi.)

Makes you wonder how they do it for the money, I phoned my local stealer the other day for a set of gaskets to do an exhaust manifold swap......£87

Thanks for all of the replies

I agree that you get what you pay for. The price stated on the link is so cheap it looks as if it is a mistake? Obviously when it's not, it can't be any good.

Didn't want to start a row, just a discussion, but wanted to know if anyone knew of a good one. Thanks Jamo, (as ever). Also thanks for the feedback on the actual manifold, urquattro-island.

Naturally, it's horses for courses, and budgets available to each person.

Big turbos and especially with stainless steel need a support to prevent cracking of the manifold and also a flexi and good engine mounts.

I understand the advantages of wrapping the exhaust manifold, but as a matter of interest years ago I had a mild steel manifold that I wrapped, but after a year of two I took the wrapping off and the manifold had rotten and I felt it was the heat wrapping that had caused the manifold to rot?

Is it the case that this rotting of the manifold would not occur with a high quality stainless steel manifold?

                  What do others feel?

                  Thanks again.

PM Carsten aka Lupo911 he actually is quite frank over SS vs Cast exhaust wrapping & manifold coating.

I've been put straight on a few preconceptions regarding manifolds after speaking to him.

SS can last if looked after and is supported top and bottom and the steel is thick enough ( but he recommends cast for a daily driver )

Thanks for reply, when you say stick with a cast one for a daily car, is it that I keep the standard S2 one, or do you have link to a upgrade cast one. Do you have a link to what you are suggesting?

The reason for considering the small turbo with the quick spool up was just to see what's possible if you try to just change the turbo and nothing else except the chip to a Homefry, just to have maximum torque as low rpm as possible and as instant boost as can be, for driving in traffic in a city. Outright or top end power say after 4500rpm not important for this particular S2.

With the above in mind, is it a case that I should still not consider it, and instead go and upgrade various items, including going to a 2871?

The standard S2 comes in at 1,950 rpm, but my MTM K24 come in at 3,000 rpm and therefore "feels" a bit laggy, is this as good as one can have with an MTM chip and a std K24?

Unfortunately never driven a decent standard S2 for comparison purposes.

                        Thanks!

If you think coming in at 3000 rpm is laggy then your limited to either the K24 or 2871r turbo as the RS2 and 3071r come in after that point.

The standard is a cast manifold just poorly designed due to the high runners of 1 & 5. You'd need an RS2 or Wagner RS2 EVO manifold

Is 3K too late for a MTM and K24, or is it normal?

What would a k24 or a 2871 come in at standard or come in at with a Wagner Rs2 Evo manifold, or is it more a question that the benefits are high up the rev range with an Evo?

Lazy - do you have a link to the Wagner, for myself and also posterity?

                            Thanks.

You can find links for wagner on the net or doing a search on the forum

An MTM K24 is not a true K24 it's some hybrid of K24 & K26. I'd flog it to be honest and get an RS2 turbo cheapest route for your upgrade plan.
