    Some thoughts about bosch MAF numbers.

    I stumbled upon some interesting thoughts about some MAF's on NordicAudi.

    Apparently the Volvo 940 Turbo and the Audi AAN/ABY MAF's holds the same electronics, and only differs in size.
    S2 = 3" right?
    940 = 2" i think.

    Here's the different numbers:
    Bosch nr Audi : 0 280 213 007
    Bosch nr Volvo : 0 280 212 007

    I cannot believe I've missed this, I've had 2 Volvo 940T MAF's at home for like 3 years and never even given it a thought.
    I have sold them both now so I can't put it to the test.

    So why is this interesting?
    Well, at least here, the 940T MAF costs a mere 90€ and it's brand new no exchange.

    In theory one could just transplant the internals from the 940T MAF to the S2 MAF tube and hey presto, a "new" S2 MAF for 90€

    Anyone have the specs on these MAF's?
    There's a dude over here that will test swapping them and see how it performs, but that's at the end of the month.

    Just a tip that I feel should be investigated further..

    Sounds good, even though they have a similar part numbers they might be configured differently.

    I think if you swap from a 2"id hose to a larger one like the s2 unit it might not be configured properly to measure that mass of air as the bore of the pipe will be larger then before.

      Yeah well, according to some "guru" here in Sweden it should work just fine, but I don't trust rumors, I want facts
      Would be nice if some bosch-know-it-all could swing by and decode those numbers..

      At least by the end of the month we'll have some real life results by a user on NordiAudi.

        There is problem of calibration. I have used recalibrated (by paper circles) bmw MAF as substitute for some time. Yes, they function the same, however output voltage corresponds to different air mass. There's potentiometer which adjusts something on the MAF, however it seems to be used for minor adjustments in the factory - on the flow bench. Without flowbench and reference - it's tricky business. It's not so linear process.

        However, person with apropriate measuring equipment, can verify this. I could do that, however I don't have good data logger and even running car at the moment .

        And regarding part numbers, those just mean, that those MAF devices are from same family of devices and have same connector. This is at least what I found when was playing with MAF's from SAAB/Opel, BMW and Audi.
