    engine trouble

    hi
traveling down a1 today (he was driving) and floored it to get in outside lane but as it approached 4000rpm (may be irrelevent) it gave a massive hesitation/almost a cut out at which released accelerator and carried on as normal it did it a couple of times any ideas
    as well as this
the fronrt washer jets have failed, handbrake has almost given up the ghost and rear brakes are not performing as well as usual
    what a cr*ppy weekend
on a good note almost did 400 on a tankful first time been on a run in months
    skint but fast

I sometimes have the same problem with my s2, also when it was full accelarating and then at about 4000 rpm it started hesitating and cutting out. But i didn`t care since its now laying totally ripped appart

But i also want to know if anybody has a clue what this may seem?

    Cheers

more than likely sounds to be a boost leak or could also be the WGFV

My AAN do the same thing, on the VAGCOM, detects 5 erros and 2 sensores broken, one is the n-75 and the other (dont remenb the name) is one on the intake pipe(its red)... its seems that this two sensors went in conflict and make the Motronic cut off the injection, this happens when i kick on the floor...
The sensors arrive soon at last

It would be interesting to know what the other component was.

I know someone who is getting consistent cut-off around 6300 - 6500 rpm. It sounds like the same thing. He claims he has tested for air leaks which was my first guess.

My cut off on 3000rpm (give a warning) but on 4000rpm cut off (1.0 bar of boost) and dont increase more the speed engine, if i release the pedal, the car goes to the 7000 rpm without cuts... (0.5 bar of boost)
When my sensors arrive i gonna see PARTS NUMBERS and tell you... and the price too

If you put here a photo of your intake a tell you, or later i gonna pop the hood and take some pictures... its easy, on the intake you a have a plastic sensor red (square coockie's size) attached on the metal intake, have some electrical wire connected... near of the aceleration controler...

But, its better if you log the engine on VAG COM...

WGFV would be my tipp, too. It may be worth giving it a go to spray into it with some heat resistant smearing compound.

I think that is the temperature sensor.

Fuel pump cutoff at 4000rpm is 'overboost protection mode' - when the ECU decides that excessive unmetered air has entered the engine and there is a risk of dangerously high boost. Root cause is almost always a major air leak - in the primary intake plumbing, secondary (vacuum tree), or the WG diaphragm, TBV or PCV systems. Less likely is a faulty MAP sensor inside the ECU. All easy enough to fix once you find the culprit...

Here, here. Was just gonna say the same things Paul! Beat me to it. Yep, pressure test intake system for leaks. Suspect areas are intercooler 'o' rings and on the 3b's the accordian hose from the IC to the intake pipe above the ex. manifold.
