    JE Wire Locks

Hi is there a known good method of installing JE piston wire locks?

Or is it a secret ancient chinese technique passed on through the ages to only budest monks?

if they are like the wiseco ones then id bin um and use factory ones.

a bent nail came to mind. they were thicker than the groove in the piston.

installing factory ones is hard enough.

anybody know of a tool for these.

There is a tool but don't know how much or where to buy it. There's a couple of US patents on the web for them.

JE supplied wire locks on my pistons. I don't know how they determine which type you should get but I've heard Spiro locks are even worse!

i used my hands and a small bar to put them in. i put a plaster over my nail and suffer some pain.

usually end up with some cuts and some pain in the thumb. may get one of those tools if i can.

Jamo I just use my fingers, but is the technic of doing it, it is something that you learn over the years, unfortunately is not something that i can translate to paper, sorry. Sometimes they do fly away and i carry some spares as you never find them as they seem to travel miles.

                      I will try to explain,

the first one you put in at an angle squeezed open ends first, then using the wrist pin you push it up with it and you cover the outside hole where the lockating groove is with you finger. Once you have the first clip in place assemble the piston/conrod. the other one is fitted similarly but this time try to fit and squeeze the open ends partially into the groove, and then push the opposite end downwards until it sits in the groove. This is were they tend to fly away, use the finger on the other hand applying pressure.

Hope this makes some sense as it is difficult to explain something that you do as second nature.

Cheers Aelred, i'll get the bits and try and fit it all together at home.

Tell you what after starting to build my 1st I5 engine Aelred, MRC etc etc really do deserve every penny they earn as it's not as easy as one would think without practice.

Just make sure you check that the clips are seated properly in the groove also ensure that you do not damage the rings, I tend to rest the piston conrod assembly on a soft clean cloth acting a little as a cushin.

the first ones are easy would you agree. the second lot after the pins are harder. i try to put the one end in the groove and use the round top edge of the piston the create the inward pressure using a bar to flip the other end in and then seat the lot with a small socket
