    Acceleration reduction in 3rd?

I have an '96 S2 that has been running very well and had a cambelt etc change recently but acceleration seems to have dropped of considerably, particularly in 3rd gear. The oil pressure is very good, no loss of oil, no over heating but it seems to have lost its punch in 2nd and particularly 3rd gear. It makes no funny noises and had a full service on 500 miles ago. Any suggestions please?

Is this only when you give it WOT or also when just accelerating?

It accelerates but just not as quickly as normal, so if I really put my foot down it accelerates but nowhere as quick as usual.
Boost leak - no idea, how would I know?
        Loose spark plugs, I'll check.

Fit a boost guage... 'T' it into the braided hose that connects to the ECU.

The ECU is behind the glovebox. Do NOT connect into the braided hose in that area for the aircon's recirc flap- that is on the vacuum only side of a 1-way valve.

Were there any problems before belt change?

            Check timing.

No there were no problems before the belt change and judging from some replies yes it appears that it is not getting the rapid acceleration, which I now assume is normally from the turbo boost, so perhaps it might be the turbo or a part of that mechanism. If that is right, where in Surrey (Dorking) is good to go to get it checked etc? Any suggestions please?

Newsh is near you and I'm sure would have some suggestions, send him a PM.

Sounds to me like you've disturbed the O ring that sits between the intercooler and cross member. The best thing to do is to get a 70mm to 60mm reducer and fit it on the outside of the join, know as the 'Mark H mod' after Mark Halligan who did it first. I would bet that solves some of your problems if you've not done it before

Andy, many thanks, have done that - here's hoping it's not too bad or difficult to fix!

Mine was nailed when I bought the car, took me 6 months of frustration to fix it and a further 2 years to get rid of all the boost leaks
