See here's the thing got me another read thru - you say the fans kick in when the water heats up - the radfan thermoswitches (at bottom of main rad) must be working and oh yeah the water must be heating up....
Check your earths alright - two at rear of IM on the S2 and there is one strap from rear drivers side corner of hed to the chassis that gets missed sometimes, but you often get misfires when that is loose.
Check my site and look for quick ways to check integrity or wiring from MFTS to the guage for example.
