Strange things happen...(or maybe just coincidence) read somewhere about trying the water trick. Poured some water and a bit of WD-40 around back of pulley wheel, gave it a try and it fired up?!? It's gotta be coincidence surely as what the hell would the water do??

Thanks to Carlos, whizzed it round his and got the scope on it and all seemed to be pulseing fine.

Im not gonna be driving it for a while but will try fireing her up several times a day and see if it happened again.

Thanks for all your input...until next time...

Apparently the water helps if the Hall Sender is on the way out... Mine only worked intermittently, so I had it replaced.

Check the wiring for obvious damage, I think Jas had a wiring issue on his not so long ago.

If the car was running then the scope will be fine, until the thing fails again! Mine used to cut out on WOT now and again, usually when overtaking something, and would also not start from time to time, usually when most inconvenient! I would replace the sensor asap if I were you. You would be as well to do the cam belt too if it has not been done in a while.

From what i remember the part from Audi is £120, direct from Lucas is £60. But you can also get just the sensor with no bracket for $10/£5. This means removing the old sensor and riveting the new one onto the old bracket, but you save shedloads.

I had this ONCE. I poured water down the back and it never did it again.....

            *fingers crossed*

I would wait and see if anything develops. I expected this to be the case...

            Cheers,

G40 Cam Sensor info including testing with an LED

You can test your G40 Cam sensor insitu using a cheap LED inserted between pins 2 and 3, as discussed in this G40 info post, To see the G40 pulse, connect an LED between the 5v supply (Pin 1) and the signal pin (Pin 2) of the connector. Use a standard 2v LED, NOT the 12v LEDs with a built in resistor. The long lead (anode) of the LED should go to the 5V (Pin 1) side and the short lead (cathode) to the CPS output side (Pin 2).
