    Oil Catch can

    Hi,

What are the benefits of fitting an oil catch can to my car (S6)? Does it increase hp, or are they only for older engines that burn oil? I don't want to waste money buying one if one isnt really needed.

    Thanks

Well there aren't any hp gains directly. At best, an oil catch can would keep oil out of the take tract and, more specifically, out of the intercooler (and, therefore, there might be a bit of hp gain, but not over a clean intercooler).

Here is an AAN diagram that points out that you could catch the oil vapours near the back of the engine, rather than at the front.

There are some direct gains IMHO...

1 - oil vapour removed from the intake system makes for a cleaner mixture to be ignited... It was never designed to burn oil - diesels are

2- the temperature of this oil vapour increase the charge temperature => more chance of knock at high load or just some retardation => less power

3 - no gunge build up in the intercooler => cleaner system all round

Yep doesn't the oil vapour also lower the octane rating of the fuel being burnt?

Either way win win on the install.

Something else to add to the list then! Engine is being stripped for new rods and balancing as we speak!
