I still have my old bolt, and couldnt find a pulley in the scrappies, thats why i have ordered a new one, well a new sprocket with the key in it, will have to strip the pulley down and rebuild it onto the new sprocket. Also what the hell does the damper do within the pulley, why does it need a damper there. And if thats knackered it is 200 quid for a new one( oh god please be ok ). My bits come Wednesday, might have a holiday on Thursday to Try them on the car and if it is knackered, get the head removed . On the bright side though i did want the Valve stem seals renewing. Oh and with seeing how money goes how much could i get an RS2 ex/ manifold for, if they are cheap enough i might clag my S2 turbo onto one of those, saves me the chew for when i do get around to upgrades.

It seems a lot of people have had trouble with their pulley one way or another when they have removed it, loose bolts etc.

Heres a pic of mine, the damper was cracked halfway through , can just see in this pic.

If you do end up having to take the head off graham and end up not fitting the RS2 manifold but want to in the near future, i'd reccomend changing the studs for it anyway, you dont want any to snap whilst the head is in situ which will probably require head removal again

Cheers, will the RS2 studs fit the S2 manifold, so i can just replace the manifold when cash is more in abundance.

yes they are the same. but you have to cut 2 of them down slightly for the RS2 manifold

That is a scarey picture Martin - how the hell did that happen?

The damper thing is a piece of crap in my book - mine is going to need a bit of rework due to it having a small wobble. SteveH had a wobbling one as well.

I noticed it when i did my head overhaul, car had been running fine.
Daren't think what could have happened though.

My damper had a huge wobble in it. Looks like it came of worse from hiting the intercooler when it was crashed. We didn't notice it was that bad till everything else was straight.

Needless to say it went in the bin and a new one was fitted. Hell it only cost £10,000* to bring the car back from the brink , so what's another £200

Yes by rights it is, i got my mate who ownes a garage to do the job 10,000 miles ago, he has done loads of cars like this, doing cars such as supras and gt3000's, i am personally fuming with this , so now i am doing the whole lot myself at his garage as i want to put it back myself and get everything spot on to the manual and i want him to at least go halves with me on the parts, as he did do the belt labour free originally. But yes i am seriously pissed off . I need a bit of advise aswell, according to the AAN manual for the motor using Vag tool (cant remember the number) tighten the crank bolt to 258lb/ft, but on other sites it says using the tool go to 258 but using an ordinary torque wrench go to 330lb/ft. I have access to torque wrenches this range, so which do i use.

The torque tool is a multiplier - it just adds a bit more footage to the length - that is why it is lower with the tool.

I struggled to get near that figure so just did it as tight as I could - and I used loctite.

Grahm, you have my deepest.... if there's anything I can do to help, just ask .... My only input 'coming out of the dealers' is that all of these bolts used for teh crank / cam etc they are all one use and throw away jobs. They are done up *esp. the crank) so fooking tight the bolt actually stretches and therefore cannot hold the correct torque setting ever again properly. Audi say to change every nut and bolt as a matter of course these days, this isprobably not them wanting more sales, but advising caution. If there is a moral for all to learn? please always use new nuts and bolts

If there is any thing I can do... ask me

                                Hi, Graham,

Do you mind sharing the price for the 20vt pulley? I would like to have another one for playing around with all the extra parts I have. I might be able to build a 20vt out of leftovers, but the crank pulley is something I don't have extra. Not to mention I should look closely at mine, since the intercooler was damaged in the accident that killed my 3B donor.

                                Thanks,
