    anti run on pump

    can anyone help?
which switch on the water rail controls the run on pump as i have never heard mine work..how long does it run for?
i bridged the connections of the switch with 2 wires going to it and when the ignition is on the pump runs for approx 5 seconds,is this the correct one or is something else wrong...any advise would be useful..

It's the 2 pin switch, not the 3 or 4 pin MFTS.

For 3B related info go here:

For AAN, ABY and ADU info go here and pull down to last diagram:

I should have added that the pump is the after run pump not the anti run on pump (run on is dieselling after you shut off the ignition).

The PN of the pump is shown here (add a zero before the "34"):

      http://forums.audiworld.com/s4s6/msgs/189534.phtml

The PN of the two pin switch (very common across all the turbo 5's) is:

      054 919 369 B

The switch only comes on when the coolant temps are very high (e.g. 110 C) and the ignition is OFF. And then it activates a timer relay that runs the pump for a short period (5 min or so).

Most of the time, the pump will never be activated.

Before all that check the fuse and relays are present, never ran on my coupe because there was no relay in the fuse box for the afterrun system.

checked the pump and it is working, also the rad cooling fan runs at the same time as the pump..it must be the sensor in the rail thats no good.i am going to change it for a lower temp one so the pump/fan kick in when its turned off...can anyone recomend a part number.i have read that vw lt vans are the one to use but cant find it in the search..

it should be possible to hear the pump run on test for 5 secs when the ignition is turned to electrics only (i.e. before turnong the engine over to tstart) needs to be quiet outside and no fan running but you should hear a short hum.

What i need to check on mine is that the fan and pump run together as never heard my fan run after turning ignition off....though i have heard/felt the pump.

FAE 35810 is a good choice. 100/95 C connecting temps.

This 80/90 trick has been used on AAN's. Here is a link to PNs and a photo (probably needs adaptation to work on an ABY or 3B because of intake differences):
