    LPG and S2's

On tuesday I will be picking up Dests S2 Avant and being a LPG installer my first plan is to get it on LPG.

I'm mainly curious if anyone off here has ever had it done and possibly knows about any engine issues anyone has suffered due to being on LPG.

Looking at the flow rates of the LPG injectors we use I shouldn't have issues upto 400hp which is a good thing, obviously I don't plan to push it that hard initially but I suspect like any car I'll soon get the tuning bug once I've owned it a while

For anyone with any LPG knowledge I will be using the latest Prins kit developed for turbo vehicles, No loss in power and half price motoring, who can complain about that

On this town there is UrS4 Avant running on LPG... it goes quietly... bad thing is that the owner doesn't use the gasoline anymore... I'm planning on put a CNG system on mine ang save lots of money going with the stock WG pressure of 5psi with CNG and get the 1.4bar with gasoline when I want some real power.... these new systems have the capacity for being the gas injected to the intake manifold via a fuel rail for the gas. The CNG/LPG ECU, takes the signals of rpm, tps and lambda sensor (if is used). The car will loose some power, but is not like in the old systems of gas where a fuel mixer was used, reducing the flow in the induction pipe to the TB more than a 30-40%... in the new systems there is no air reductor, so the power loose is not over the 8%.

CAUTIONS WITH CNG/LPG: Oil changes more frequently, all the ignition system MUST to be in perfect conditions (coil, spark wires and spark plugs... these last two must to be NEW when the gas system is installed). When mapping the system, be sure to be with a MAXIMUM value of 1:1 Lambda or less (stoich or more rich is better), when the most minimum LEAN value...you will start to burn the exh valves (I suggest 0.96:1 approx and you'll have NO PROBLEMS...NEVER!), the CNG/LPG fuel filter must to be changed every 10K KILOMETERS or 7K miles. Having these system doesn't mean that you will not use gasoline anymore... you must to use it... a lot less but when warming up and under hard accelerations ---> gasoline, when cruising, going slow under low boost and saving money ---> CNG/LPG

Well I'm telling you this guys cuz on my NM...was runing with the old system of LPG, always ran RICH, now that I took out the engine... the valves are jus amazingly PERFECT, all 20's!!! No oil burning, well performance was reduced a looooooooot but after 11 years and 170.000kms under LPG... the engine still being like new. hehe I'm studying these systems, my friend is an installer and we both always go to map the cars with the laptop after the car is finished. We always say one thing: "Is not matter which mark of system are you using, is the way you install and map it", in most of the car we have done... you don't feel the difference in power loose.

I hope this info could help.

Thanks for the link and thanks Martyn

Fabio, some interesting info there, sadly we do not use CNG over here yet, when I went to BRC in Italy they seemed to be testing it on everything but it hasn't taken off here yet. I know of a few engine builders who are carrying out dyno testing using CNG but that is as far as it has got.

I'll keep you updated once I've done the conversion

Thanks Lee, I need to find 5 mins to look round the site as there appears to be more than enough info on the S2's.

I'll get some detailed info up on the conversion shortly, I'm off to the ring in 4 days so I won't be looking at converting it until I'm back

Yes, I usually go twice a year, I won't be in the S2 though.

Were staying at the Ringhaus until the following wednesday.

What you taking ? If its the S2 it would be great to get a passenger lap in it so I can see what there like on track

                    I will have the S2 yeah, and a scooby-doo and an E36 M3 EVO.
Passenger lap no problem but it is my first time there, hopefully there will be someone there with an S2 that knows the place.
I will PM my details for you.

                      1 E36 M3, 1 E46 M3 and a Gti6 powered 205 going out of our group, we arrive on friday.

I'm just looking forward to the break if anything lol

The 205 is rapid from what I've seen, I once had a 1.9 Gti and regretted selling it as it was very good to me.
