    Time to learn settings

How long does it take for the ECU to learn its optimum settings? Had to disconnect the battery to replace the starter whilst on my hols and have lost some performance that I assume is because it has gone back to square one regards the ECU engine values.

it doesn't take long and in fact i found the oposite when i checked a couple of ecu's the other night, I actually (seat of the pants feeling at least...) felt like the car was pulling stronger as a result of the re-learn cycle....

      settings

Diference isn't massive (around 0.3 secs has been added to the 50-70 time in 4th). What difference would 95 octane make as I had to refill with this in Ireland and have since gone back to 98 octane V-Power yesterday?!. Probably still got a mix of both but assume settings will now be adjusting to better fuel?!

I had a battery isolator fitted to my car - very useful for resetting the ECU (not so great with the radio presets though).

Still not performing as well as before. Do I need to fill up with some high octane tesco super or similar and then disconnect battery for a while to reset ECU or will it automatically adjust to better fuel?!

I put some 95 in yesterday as it was all that was available, and the car is running like crap! It feels sooooo slow and only boosts to 1.2 bar, and it doesn't feel like it's managing that to be honest.

It's the petrol, 95 makes these cars run like crap as Ben says above. When my lambda was knackered it wouldn't run on 95 at all, now it's just unbelievably slow

After usually using only 98 ron / Vpower Im trying to work out which fuel works actually works best in my S2, (which is running MTM chips). Noticed for a while on full chat, giving it the beans it seems to hold back slightly on change up at around 5k mark and just doesn’t pull as well. Hard to describe – not as dramatic as a misfire more sort of flutters and then the power kicks back. Boost levels seem fine. This is on V Power or if Im skint Sainsburys super.

Lot of possibilities but I wondered if it was a knock sensor related thing. The other day I had no choice but to go with good ol 95 – and the car seems the better for it!! The fluttering seems to be gone changing up when really booting it, it grabs the revs and pulls smoothly. Boost seems unchanged and despite booting it a lot checking all this out the mpg is up too!!

So what gives!!! Got a feeling that there’s not quite the same bite tho and Im going to stay with 95 this week then go back to assess the difference. If that dont mess the ecu up too much!!

Right, well going from these comments I think I will run this tank low and fill up to brim with Tesco 99 octane and then when home disconnect the battery to reset everything. Hopefully I will get back the missing torque. Fingers crossed. Has run well on this and v-power in the past.
