UR S6 poor fuel consumption

My S6 has started to return very little mpg when pushed its still showing 2.1/2 bar on the digital gauge, but it feels a little under par.I have no idea how to pull the codes on an S6 without vag com, plus I can smell fuel,checked for leaks but nothing obvious.
lambda 5000mls ago and new thermostat.
Oil and water temperatures are spot on.but IT feels like there is a fair bit of heat when you open the bonnet ,could this just be down to the poor running.
Any ideas would be appreciated

If you can smell fuel and you haven't already checked the braided fuel line from the fuel filter then I suggest that you check it. If you have already checked it then check it again or just replace it anyway for piece of mind!! Problems with that hose are far too common on the urSs and not always easy to spot. Scary thought as when it starts to squirt fuel it usually does it in the direction of the exhaust manifold. I know of several cars (including mine) that have had this problem and it has been known for the cars to go up in smoke because of it. In the US Audi recalled all of the urSs for this fault but oddly they never admitted it was a problem over here.

What sort of MPG are you getting? Mine's not been so hot recently, even on a long run and taking it relatively steady I'm struggling to beat 25mpg. I'm sure it used to do more than that!

How about 14.5 when you pock it and 19 when you dont.

My standard set up urS6 is showing an avarage 31.4mpg keeping it between
70-75mph.

I bet that is reading optimistically high. I would guess closer to 28 mpg measured by a complete fill and actual miles travelled on that tank.
