Oil Leak - what is this part?

Please see the attached picture from my HQAEVDOS v234.5321 (High Quality Audi Engine Visual Diagram Output Software)

It seems to be a sensor of some sort with a white cap on it. Just above it is another sensor with 3 cables coming out of it, 2 of which are blue.

Im looking a lot of oil and this seems to be the source or so I think.

What is it? where can i buy it? what is the prefered method of replacing it? (i cant seem to get my hand in there, do i remove the rad?)

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

It is the 1.8 bar oil pressure switch. Part # 056919081 £6.06 + VAT from Vagparts. (The 0.3 bar oil pressure switch is inside the oil pressure sender which is the can above with two wires going to it)

Well known for failing and leaking oil - you'll see several posts on here about it. If you've been getting Autocheck buzzing at you as you pass through 2000 RPM that's another sign of this switch failing.

I've just replaced mine and it isn't easy to get to. Certainly a part worth replacing as a matter of course if you ever have the engine out or the radiator off for any other reason.

If you don't have A/C, then taking the radiator out is the quickest. If you do, as I do, then I took the hydraulic pump off and aux rad. off & went in that way.

Whichever way you go, treat yourself to a new thermostat at the same time and check/replace the two short hoses one above, one to the side of the thermostat housing.

        Thank you.

I dont suppose you have the part numbers for the 0.3 pressure switch, thermo and the oil pipes you replaced too do you?

I have AC, so I take it I should remove the pwoer steering pump and aux rad?

The combined 0.3 bar pressure switch & oil pressure sender is part #035-919-561, approx £45 +VAT from VAGparts. I didn't replace this as mine wasn't leaking, it doesn't have a history of leaking and I was fitting a new non Audi oil pressure 270º gauge anyway.

Thermostat is part #17636 from GSF and half the price of the same one from VAGparts @£8.75 + VAT. You also need a new sealing ring #17692.

I don't have the part # for the two short water pipes. I got mine from the Stealers a couple of years ago.

If you have confidence you can get the main radiator out whilst leaving the A/C radiator supported and unbroken behind you could go that route. I took the pump off and went that route taking the opportunity of changing the drive belts on the way but ended up taking the front bumper off as well to get access to several things not least the pesky little rubber mounts that hold the aux radiator to the cross member.

              Hi Ski,

Where do I get a copy of HQAEVDOS v234.5321 (High Quality Audi Engine Visual Diagram Output Software) from?

              It looks brilliant!

Looks like you have found your problem though.

              Cheers,

              Steve.
