    Trouble with 3B S2

    Hello there!

My name is Simon and I live in Iceland, this would be my first post on this forum

I have a 1991 S2 coupe, I have been tuning it and got it up and running but shortly after I started it (drove about 400 km) the car started to act weird!
I was overtaking a car, geared down to 3rd gear and went to about 7000 rpm, right after that the car seemed to go to limp mode, decided to stop by the side of the road but there the car died and wouldn't start again...
Got it home and now it is like that that it doesn't start but it is possible to tow it and get it running, but it only runs when I keep it over 1000 rpm
I have tried to put in a hall sender from another car and also tried my ECU in the other car, everything is timed right in and works OVER 1000 rpm, except that it is in limp mode
I also tried to replace G4 and G28 (sensors on flywheel) but didn't work.
When the ECU is plugged to a diagnostic computer it brings up G4 or G28 when I just try to start it up but if I tow it and it is running it shows G40 (hall sender)

I somehow feel like I have tried everything!! Any new ideas??

    Thanks, Simon...

Check the basic timing marks on the engine. The cambelt may have jumped.

      @4WheelDrifter

Have already done that, everything is on time, camshafts, damper-wheel and flywheel...

Distributor gear damaged or its basic setting is wrong.

Check the reference timing pin is still in the flywheel... And if you have access to a scope that you see a pulse from that pin every crank rotation at 62 deg BTDC... On every other rotation, the crank reference pulse must arrive within the camshaft (hall sensor) pulse.

I putted a metal distributor gear in and it's timed right in.

I thought of the pin this weekend but didn't have time to check it out, so I will do it next weekend...
            I just don't have a scope

Has anyone else had it it like that the car only runs over 1000 rpm? Is there a sensor or something that keeps the car running at idle and under 1000 rpm but isn't doing anything over 1000 rpm!?

could it be anything to do with the ISV, if that's not working then when you lift off the rpm just falls down to zero, I've had a similar issue with my 3B

Tried to put in a ISV from another car, didn't change anything...

                  Up and running again

The pin in the flywheel was broken! We had some guys resurfacing the flywheel when we replaced the clutch, and to do that they had to take out all the pins on the clutch side, the long pins (which don't have any obvious purpose to me ) broke so they had to put in new ones, one of them had fallen out and managed to break the pin for the sensor

                  Should have checked that earlier...

                  Thanks for the comments

                  Best regards...

I love it when I'm right 1st time ... Not easy in the world of remote S2 diagnostics

Good to hear its sorted though...

But can someone tell me why the two long pins are on the clutch side? Do they have a purpose in some other cars with same flywheel or something?
