    Setting distributor timing.

Can the distributor be rotated to advance/retard the timing with the engine running or would this ill-advised?

Rotating the distributor wont advance or retard the timing on the S2. You may get the spark to jump to the wrong lead though, if it's not lined up properly.

Thanks Steve, this is for a 10v normally aspirated car. Would you recommend making adjustments with the engine off on this engine or can it be done "real-time"?

Yes do it whilst it's running, only way to do it properly is with a timing gun on the flywheel.

AFAIK the KV doesn't adjust itself like the S2.
