    Please identify this 2.2L..

Hi guys, being a newb here I have looked around but cant work out what this is motor is, Its got a distibuter (well the remains of it like a 3B) but its got the ABY valve cover.. then an intake manifold I can not seem to match to my searches around here.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

And yes, its brand new nice start hopefully to my rebuild.

Looks like an early AAN out of a URS4. Dizzy gives the ECU TDC rather than the whole sparks.

Deffo an AAN - note the viscous fan that is unique to the UrS4/S6... and the distinctive inlet manifold.

Must be an early AAN with the half dissy - as Andy says for housing the camshaft position (hall effect) sensor.

Just by looking at the intake manifold and the viscous clutch fan, it is an AAN from either an UrS4 or UrS6. I can't see any cam position sensor at the exhaust cam and you say it has some kind of "dizzy" (Hall sender in a tuna can) SO....that makes it an early UrS4 AAN built up to Feb. 92 (a previous date established here).

The AAN is basically the same as the ABY.

Looks like its from an URS6 with the hall sender in the front?

How to you figure that? He said it has a "dizzy" and I can't see any signs of a hall sender near the exhaust cam nose.

Get that viscous fan off there for starers! That'll rob a hp or two in the lower gears.

Great, so if I change the bearings to some decent coated ones and make sure all is still to spec I should be able to make a decent amount of HP out the bottom end with the correct supporting mod's? Looking to make 350hp/260kw

My AAN is "fully" RS2'd (with the external bits) and makes 350 reliable hp (dyno confirmed) without opening up the engine.

Thats fantasic, did you upgrade the bearings or did the AAN have better bearings than the problematic 3B? I do plan to use ARP main, road and head bolts though to keep everything nice and tight.

If you don't know the history of the engine then a refresh might be a good plan, if you do then it's up to you, there are plenty of high mileage AAN/ABYs (mine included) running spot on at 300-350bhp.

Its brand new has never been bolted into a car. looks a bit dingy in the pics because its been standing for 2 years not in the origional oil bag they came in, guy took it off to scavange one or two parts.

I will pull it apart anyways to put a metal head gasket and some ARP's and very mild head work, would help not having to change bearings ectr if they are the better ones than the 3B had in them.
