    Power concern...

Well after having a good spell without problems it appears there is something not quite right....it doesn't want to boost over 0.8 bar.....and the power seems to be done a bit

what I mean by that is sometimes you get the usual kick in the back and sometimes it doesn't....mainly when I am already 'cruising' it hasn't got that "urgency" like it used to

or am I just getting used to it and wanting more power....

    any clues would be great...

    thanks in advance...

    Mike

oops yes,i read the part underneath that about the urgency!
Still the 0561 code is mixture adaptation, which could be the MAF.It is just that whenever i get a little bit of jurk before going WOT and clearing things up,i end up with that code and it is either bad fuel, something intermittent with the MAF,or the lamda.

Since this is happening on WOT,definitelly not the lamda, but could be the MAF then

I'd say the WGFV is playing up if anything. Just my 2p as mine did that when it was faulty.

thanks for the help...the wgfv is 3 months or so old....the plugs aren't even a month old...

has anyone got a VAG com that I can borrow?...or anyone holding a meet where one will be present...

              could timing cause this problem?...

S2avant would be close to you, failing that I've got vagcom.

halfrauds had clearance on code readers.

only an led in a box with a switch and three wires off the end but, for a tenner i think you'd struggle to make a tidy one up for yourself.
it comes with a book with all the codes and meanings too.

failing that i'm sure s2central explains how to make one up.

sorry, I should have explained better.
I meant check your spark plugs and lambda to see if they are black with soot to see if you're having over fuelling probs.

is it chipped or standard? unless you've got an uprated WG spring you should have 0.4 bar if it's not got WG control. Sounds like it's leaking boost from somewhere, dump valve would be worth a check, no bhp lost but if it leaks then you'll loose boost. Lambda can cause some funnies, I had some real bad hesitation on WOT that seemed to clear with 2 or 3 runs, new lambda sorted that for some reason.

it is standard..sort of....I have a receipt for an upgraded forge WG spring and it has, I have been informed, an uprated sport DV...the one really odd thing is I got 1 bar a couple of times yesterday, so it might even be my driving!?!??!...
i.e. expecting full boost when the engine is already running at fairly high revs...3-4k.....and being in the wrong gear..
This could explain the intermitentancy of the problem.....I am an idiot!!!....

I will keep my eye on this issue and would still appreciate a vag com check....in case anything else is playing up..

cheers again for the help and tips..

Is it a standard 'ish' ABY. If so then it could be that your witnessing the difference between normal boost and over boost (when you boot it) Mine is a bit random as to whether it overboosts or not.

if it has a stiffer wg spring and hasnt been tuned to suit. If ur wgfv has failed then u will get the overboost cut out.

Yeah, stiffer WG spring will explain why it's boosting more than the expected 0.4 bar. Get it back to standard, there's no gains on a k24 car for having an uprated WG spring and the ECU isn't designed for it. Best to have the car standard so that you can trouble shoot at times like this. Without knowing the base boost it's difficult to identify what's wrong. Does the boost at higher rpms 6500-7500 drop off, should be about 0.6bar at the rev limiter on a stanadard WG spring, anything more and the stock ECU won't be happy although it might cope.

Overboost is a funny one. To gaurantee it you really need to press the accelerator down fast, stomp on it and you need to be less than about 3k rpm in 4th or so. Most aftermarket chips dispense with it as it's a complete waste of time and a marketing gimmick, why would you ever want less than 11?
