engine won't start, s2 3b 91 mod coupè

after driving my car around a bit and just took a 20 min stop it wouldn't start again.
when i try to crank the engiene it just won't fire.
i have just changed the g28 sensor because it was a fault code on it when i used the vag com on the car.
it seems that it doesn't get any spark or something like that.

i haven't checked the coil yet but i'll do that tomorrow.

do anyone have any idea what it could be?

I'd probably say its the coil, easiest thing to do with that is just remove the cap and crank the engine and see if that the rotor arm turns.

also not sure how to check but it could be the timing pin on the flywheel.

but tbh i'd go for the dizzy first off, easier to check and most likely the problem, good luck.

Couple of quick questions to help the diagnostics...

Q1.... Does it crank over? Yes or No... If no (battery start supply not available)
Q2....Does it crank over at normal crank speed? Yes or No... If no (battery start supply not available or limited/restricted through earthing)
Q3....Does it crank, and fire?... if no (Ignition supply (spark) not supplied, or fuel 'rack' in 'no fuel'... eg.. no fuel pump, or no fuel to all 5 injectors, or no method of ignition (spark).
Q4....Does it crank, fire, run and stop... (failing fuel pressure, over enrichment/fuel starvation). (Fuel management control).

Q1- yes it does crank over
Q2- yes it does crank over at normal speed
Q3- it does crank but it doesn't fire
Q4- it just cranks, no fire at all

sounds either fuelling or spark hopefully as easier to sort out. Can you hear the fuel pump firing and does it definately have fuel in it (just checking as the gauge might be faulty etc)

Coil or Dizzy as Pete said....HAve you checked the fuses ?

As suggested above really... Fuel or spark... Suspect spark... (if in doubt check for wet spark plugs).

acidburn: yes it definately has fuel in it, at least half a tank. i haven't tried to listen for the fuel pump since the weather outside is quite windy an bad so i hva to take that tomorrow when the weather is better.

knight rider s4: can you please explain what dizzy is, haven't heard that word before im afraid haven't checked the fuses either yet because of the bad weather tonight

Drop the rear seats with all the doors and boot shut. You should hear it charge up.

ian simmonds: im also suspeckting that it's a spark problem, but haven't had the time to chek it properly yet. it have been missfired a bit lately, but i haven't found out what causes that problem, im not sure if that could have anything to do maybe that it won't start?
the only fault that appears on the vag com is the fault on the g28 sensor that i have just replaced.

Dizzy = Distributor..If the fault lies here ..the usual suspect is the plastic gear that runs on the cam has broken and not turning the rotor arm ,therefore no spark...

Okay, try the usual,

Dizzy cap off check the contacts
take off one of the HT leads, insert an old spark plug if you have one and check for spark on it (cyl 3 is the one I used to check)
i had this poroblem on My 3b when replaced in my old coupe, just changed the dizzy cap and rotor arm andit worked,

Also Check if the timing is out, might be worth a shot if all else fails.
