Im wanting to switch over to castrol rs oil but which is the correct viscosity for our engines? ive read in earlier threads that people have used 10w-60w?? but all i can find is the 0w type (with ralf schumacher on the can)
isnt 0w too thick, ive read that some people think it is.

Martin,
yep its 10w-60 that you want you can get it fromCastrol Classic oils or from Euro Car Parts who also stock it. Great stuff, but it takes ages to get it into the engine as its so thick.

Errm isn't a thick oil bad for hydraulic tappets? I thought that you wanted a thinish oil to fill the tappets more quickly? not oot hin so that iot drains out tho'

I would say 10W-60 only. The 0W- is for the recent new engines.

I think mihnea recommended castrol rs10w60 somewhere so thats whats going in mine. i enquired at main audi dealer about the cost of a 10k (85,000) miles service ..GULP. and to my suprise he came back with a quote of around £200. amazing . they cannot supply the rs oil so taking my own . how much do we need ?? 5 litres?. at this point he said i could knock 50 quid off as they put mobil 1 in . not sure if this includes the plugs...probably not considering the price!!. also asked about brake fluid change which would be another £50 or so . so all in all i recon £400 should cover it even if they find summat else to do. ps thanx for the castrol link . think i will order it from here . anyone used them ?
Thats us main stealers for you. I've seen cars come in for a full service and leave with a bill of over £1000 .
All to keep a main dealer stamped service book.
Personally, I wouldn't trust any of our Audi dealerships to work on my car. AFAIK we have only one person left who worked on S2s when they were new and he's a service manager now.
Don't tell my bosses I said that though

the best intentions are fraught with disappointment - gil grissom
i got a mate that does that. pays vw 120 squid for an oil change! told him i would do it for the cost of parts but he is obcessed with the little vw stamp in his book! madness

me thinks RR URQ next :mischeif:
200quid for an oil change Ako!! Man that's steep! It is so simple to do too and should only take 20 minutes.
lee as far as i am aware they do all the other checks etc as laid down in the service book. so not just an oil change as such. they charge £75 hr labour so can't be much more than an hour anyway. mmmm will do it anyway as car has full history from new with 10k worth of bills in a folder etc. but i take your point guys . if i keep the car ,which is still up for sale btw, and do the exhaust cam mod to get spinning a bit quicker i would probably let greg s do it followed by a remap by mihnea. audi dealer wouldn't av a clue on that .
Got some from euro car parts in chessington,
well im actually in the middle of changing it at the moment.
got a fumoto valve to fit too, no more oil spillages.....like the one i've just done...doh!
apparently bmw dealers stock the 10w-60 type as M3's + CSL's use it
