Go for OE ABY/AAN/ADU metal headgasket. It's not too difficult to do, set aside a weekend. Make sure you check the head for flatness though and don't be suprised if some EM studs snap

From when I did mine, the EM to head gasket was fine but the turbo to DP and WG to DP gaskets were shot, the IM gasket was OK but the water manifold was in need of some TLC. I think the one you want is the Victor Reinz (sp.) kit with everything in it...

GSF have the head gasket set for £75 with forum discount and Victor Rienz...If the head gasket has blown and you have had to drive it to get home, i would get head skimmed just to be on the safe side..

Freeze spray for the EM studs..when removing the head , leave manifolds on with turbo ..bit heavy to lift but much easier to remove EM/IM on a bench

                    thanks guys¡¡¡

today finally i´ve opened all the head and of course the only problems was the bad "paper" oem 3b head gasket. cylinders are OK and pistons too

tomorrow the head will go to "drive" and test the valves too. and for replace all the head gaskets...Audi have for sale the same head gaskets for adu/aby/3b... the same reference part number

now comes my upgrade setup :

                    - ECU setup with RS2 powered maps and 300kpa map sensor
                    - Wagner RS2 EVO EM
                    - genuine new RS2 k24 7200
                    - Big Bosch fuel pump 5 bar
                    - 7A FPR but Audi have for sale with the same reference the NM FPR too ,maybe it is for 4 bar too like the 7A??????

after all...now i have the best chance to change the oem 3b camshafts and i´ve bought the 7A cams team ....my main questions is:

                    - wich will be the best and safer engine setup with the camshafts for my "RS2 POWER" project????

                    -3b intake + 3b exhaust cams
                    -both 7A cams together
                    -3b intake + 7A exhaust
-7A intake + 3b exhaust (sure just this NO )

after read various threads here about it..i am not 100% sure and maybe the most reliable engine setup will be with both 7A cams??? because the RODS and TRANSMISSION will have less damage with higher rpms with maximun torque true??? its more safer have 480nm at 4000 rpm than 480nm at 3000 true????

                    -----------------------------------------

my engine at the mometn have stock internals and maybe in my "3b" will be very good the RS2 rod bearings upgrade true???

                    thanks friends

With that RS2 turbo you better stay with both 3B cams to keep "early" spool-up of the turbo and drivability.
I presume you will do a custom remap of your car? In that case you could try to fit the 3B inlet and 7A outlet and adjust the timing to 5 degrees advanced with a custom cam pulley

Rocco - I would upgrade the rod bearings on your 3B to the later ABY/ADU type - they are harder. The 3B ones won't appreciate all the extra torque from that RS2 turbo.

That is correct that 3B/ABY/ADU have same number for the metal head gasket. The old paper item on 3B and early AAN was deleted and the metal one replaced it.

That 4bar FPR from 7A will be fine for your needs.

Renew any and all gaskets when doing the rebuild. I would renew all studs and nuts as well.

Consider a set of ARP head bolts - they are expensive, but can be used many times - unlike factory head bolts which should only be used once.

I agree with Bram's advice to keep both 3B cams for now unless you have variable cam pulley(s). The exhaust from 7A/NM or ADU will provide higher valve lift.

Oh and other things you will need to get best from RS2 setup on your 3B is a larger intercooler (RS2 or Wagner) and a larger airbox (RS2 is perfect but expensive).

                          thanks Bram and Paul

i knew about the large intercooler and bigger airbox setup.anyway for the moment i have a cone "pipercroos" air filter and i haveit protected. bigger IC will be a future upgrade sure¡¡

about cams...in this case i will stay again with 3b cams...

ARP head bolts...where i can buy it??

an other thing, in "vagcat" some head gaskets are totally the same for 3b/nm engines BUT no for 7A..is different...and in this case 7A head is different than 3B/NM head... hehe i am discovering various things that i dont knew

and later i´ve readed here in s2forum somethings about the 3B engine with the 7A head conversion... and maybe it seems have some advantages...

maybe will be possible to upgrade the 2.2 oem S2 engines for the 2.3 7A block true??? for won more displacement...

                              thanks again,very helpfull ALL
