All most ****ed myself when I found this today: radiator fan connector

I thought just the fan might be messed up.. Glad I check the connector. Seemingly some one extented the wires on the fan and did an awful job connecting the wires. I think I understand why my 7a motor dropped a vavle now.

    so:

80 amp fuseable link is going on the ground wire
    new fan
    new resistor
    New wiring
    new connector

    steaming now..
But I would be through the roof if I blew the aby motor.

    Cheers
    Josh

P.s. not to mention bently has the 7a schematics written wrong. Something else to piss me off. I spent half the day comparing what s2central.com had to say about the 3b radiator stuff and the the 7a bently schematics.

Josh, That's scary, especially in a potentially hot climate.

Glad you found it before any more faults occur!.

Thanks for the post, others may want to check.

Glad you found the problem Josh....

Apparently it seems you have now become one of the numerous owners who have suffered the fan connector botch job. As you have stated, the previous owner was well aware of the cooling fan ground problem but did a ham fisted job fixing it, unfortunate. Well at least you now have taken care of this screw up and have one less thing to worry about.

Isn't a problem on the S2 to my knowledge, but it was on earlier Coupes, 80 and other models.

It's the way Audi wire up their fans. Every VW I've owned has been able to run the rad fan after the ignition is off but Audi wire them to the ignition system. If the system is too hot though it can override and turn back on. I've only ever heard mine do it once though.

I check my fan today. It actually works perfectly and is a three speed fan. I also check the resistor and it works fine too. It's rated at 350watts and I think I will be happy enough with this setup for now especially since I am only running stock turbo and chip. That disconnected wire basically messed up things quite a bit. It's weird thought becuase there should only be a two stage fan in my coupe but some one must of replaced it with a three stage fan. I can't complain for once I actually benifited from a **** up. I been going through the wiring and it seems I should be able to use the HI-2 speed once I source a 50 or 70 amp relay. I am still going to install a fuseable link, and possibly another relay in front of the wiring. But things are looking positive.

                    Cheers
