What are your thoughts on this turbo?

I am currently running RS2 stage 3 MD147 turbo, but the lag is very frustrating. Anyone run a hybrid KKK/GT before?
    Thoughts appreciated
    Cheers

I run a MD357 BB turbo, in simple terms it comes in earlier than an MD147 and holds on for much longer.

The MD357 from Turbo Dynamics is classed as the Stage 5 conversion. I'm (personally) mighty impressed with it..

I've heard good things about your setup darren, what are you seeing on your boost gauge with that turbo and I heard at the time it cost you a bit to purchase, do you know if the price is still the same or dropped at all?

Cheers, It will pull 2.5 bar of boost. full boost is achieved very early not sure at what rev. By comparison it is less laggy than my old RS4 (mk1)

Not sure on the current price but i guess the credit crunch is hitting us all so may be the time to get a good deal..

The problem with the MD357 is it's double the price of the garrett unit, for a casual modder it's hard to justify the double price tag.

Lol, no such thing as a casual modder... you either have the bug or not... what starts as a habit ends in an addiction... as a lot of you know....

As you know of this turbo, can I ask what extras does one get for the extra cost over a Garret GT 3071?

                Thanks.

More aggressve acceleration in comparison to a K26 3071. This is because the compressor is actually a GT3076r sized compressor from a T04 ( also wheel will be 6 bladed instead of the GT 7 blade ) but they use a small turbine housing .60r housing IIRC

The best direct comparison would actually be a 3076r turbo with a .63 ar housing.

If you have a K26 RS2 manifold or Wagner then then MD357 is a good option if your prepared to pay the price is what I'm saying however if your on a budget then the 3071r and RS2 turbo are cheaper options.

When I spoke to TD the turbo was something like £1500 plus vat

No probs, I'll add if I had the money I would buy a MD357 as on paper alone it's a cracking design.

The MD357 is one of those turbos you look at one paper, study the compressor map, plot the turbology and think 'yeah looks pretty good'... Then you see the figures that DJones got from his and you think 'phook me its absolutely brilliant'... Price aside - its a very good turbo... I don't want to get into too many direct comparisons with similar spec'd Garretts - plenty of folk have proved they are good too - as long as correctly mapped to avoid surging.
