    upgraded injectors

    hi,
my s2 has done 117000 miles and is 18 years old and looking at the history it's never had any work done to with the injectors i wondered whether it would be worth replacing or servicing the injectors. i want to start upgrading for more power but i want to make sure that it's putting out the standard 220bhp before i start.

I used to work for Bosch and made EV1 injectors that are used on the S2.

Unfortunately, you cannot 'clean' out any large particulates from a Bosch injector, if anything you'll just force them further down to the valve seat where they will stop the injector from sealing. This can potentially hydroloc your engine and it's goodnight so I'm always a bit wary when people say they are getting their injectors cleaned ultrasonically. Some other injectors may have looser tolerances but Bosch's tolerances were very tight even back when these first generation injectors were being built.

You can test it's operation by hearing it 'buzz' and also you can test it's spray pattern (but if you do this make sure you take all the necessary precautions with regards to spraying fuel everywhere!!!). the spary pattern should be as fine as pssible and the injector shouldn't drip.

Bosch injectors are horribly expensive to buy (despite being only a couple of pence to manufacture) but I'd be surprised if there is anything wrong with the ones in your car.

I have to say that I disagree with some of the comments above about cleaning injectors.....................

1, All injectors have their own filter which prevents large particulates from getting inside the injector
2, The cleaning process is designed to remove the build up of laquor in and around the holes/pintle of the injectors being serviced
3, If the injector has been serviced by a reputable company, then a full leak test will be done before and after cleaning
4, The ASNU injector service center has full approval by Bosch themselves

In 1998, ASNU received official worldwide approval from Robert Bosch GmbH for use in their Bosch Service Workshops. Bosch distributes ASNU in various countries

Headlights: Did them myself as per S2_Bo's headlight painting thread here

As for upgrading the injectors then yes, absolutely. I know that in the search for big power, the injectors will have to be replaced for ones of a higher flow range.

Standard injectors will be fine for a standard turbo. As for getting them cleaned, seems there are several opinions there. I just stick some carb cleaner down them every now and again but that's probably worse still
