engine and rev clock cutting out

bit of a strange one. I was cruising along (part throttle little boost about 2-3k rpm) and the car and the rev clock cuts out (94 aby couple) for about half a second (just the rev clock every this stayed on) did this a few times and then stopped doing it. I was about 20 mile in to 80 mile trip and the last 60 odd mile were trouble free.

when I got home I put the car on the vagcom and it came up with the hall sensor.

my under standing was the halls sensor was only need when starting. i knew it would kill the boost and timming but this cut the engine.

so any one got any ideas.

    thanks

    Hey mark,

had the same problem here with my s4, belt had slipped two tooth!. Just to make sure check your cam timing.

    my 2 cents.

Are you sure it wasn't the standard crank code you get if you vagcom the car without the engine running?

Did you vagcom the car with the engine running?
