a while ago i had some boosting issues while trying to diagnose the fault something was bypassed and while drving you got the turbo chatter like the chav chariots that hammer round town, i was just curious what the item could be that was bypassed and what are the pros and cons of doing this.
cheers lads
And will be bypassing the N75 valve. Means that the turbo is putting pressure on the top of the Wastegate to hold it shut under boost. tis all part of the noise, my old CQ used to do this till I put a working N75 on and plumbed it up properly.

so by doing it i wont be able to run more boost and have go quicker. Am only going to wear items out faster for the sake of a noise
Sounds like to me the dump valve has been blanked off and because there is no recirc or outlet for the excess air our getting turbo stall.
Can you take pics of the setup as we need to see the setup to confirm
its all back to how it should be, it was afew months back while the boost problem was trying to be fixed in the end the wastegate spring was replaced and the problem went. i was just curious if there any advantages to having the turbo chatter i.e more power etc etc.

If by advantages you mean making your turbo go KABOOM then yes.
Chatter is a bad sign. As said already it is turbo stall, which happens when the throttle is shut and the pressurised air in the system has nowhere to go forcing the turbo to stop spinning very suddenly. This is why the recirculating valve (dump valve) is there to release the pressure and keep the turbo spinning freely.
'93 S4 Avant now back on the road complete with new shiny go faster bits.

Ermmm, NO. N75 controls boost yes. In old 10vt engines boost pressure was directed to top chamber to keep wastegate shut.
It's bypass not functioning that causes this. Old Audi turbo engines didn't even have such a device, so "constant" chatter.

More to do with the car makers not wanting there cars making funny noises. People have run without dump valves for 10's of thousands of miles without killing turbos. The air coming back over the blades doesn't stop them dead just slows them down. Many Audi race cars didn't use any, and I would say an IMSA race engine was driven harder through its races than most road cars in the whole life and there turbos survived.........
That setup sounds quite interesting but it sounds to me like you'd loose some of the failsafe's that you'd get with the normal setup (afaik probably wrong )
As long as those pneumatic valves work as hoped, you lose only some of fail-safes. If they decide to stuck closed, you are in quite a trouble, as you poor turbo will boost until EM backpressure forces WG open enough (yes, you might peak at even 2 bar on box stock K24).

Yep, it surely isn't going to spontaneously disintegrate.
As I bought my car, there was no diverter valve installed. It chatter like a group of pigeons every time I lifted gas, even if I wasn't boosting. Of course, cone filter let those sounds to be heard. Thing that made me buy (Saab 9-3 Viggen) diverter valve was the fact, that when really giving it beans, I would have to wait for turbo to respin-up to start really boosting.
