Look what I got rid of

Aux rad, how much more access ?
Should have done this a long time ago.

Used 2 22mm solder stop ends

Flushed cooling system and refilled, heater is a little better but still not brilliant, may have to do the matrix no water loss though .

Recent additions include powerflex rear wishbone bushes (thanks bertman for the bolt), rear goodridge hoses (these have made a massive difference) and while we are hear new tyres.

Dunlop sp9000. Looked at a lot of tyres before choosing these and I'm not disappointed.
Need some wet weather to test them properly but so far very impressed.

    cheers

That could be the 'best mod ever' on the S2 - makes it so much easier to access other parts of the front of the car.

It's much better isn't it. I've ditched all the plastic in the engine bay, looks a bit rustic but access is eleventy billion times better.

Is the Aux rad not needed then? Whats it there for in the first place?

Very High ambient temp and towing caravans.

Not really needed in the UK unless you have a caravan of course

Cooling is actually improved due to airflow over engine, and especially over intake/turbo.
I have seen a theory that it was included in order for the Group N rally cars to be able to use it.
Only need for it would be trackwork/racing on a very hot day.

Is that the 1st time ever that someone has sullied the forum pages with the term 'caravan' - frankly I'm disgusted. We don't need that sort of language round here. Horrible blumming things - clagging up the road with Mr & Mrs Miggins, their three screaming kids and scabby dog towing their family possessions from one schlonky place to another as an excuse for a 'holiday'.

Oh sorry if thats a bit harsh on any happy campers of the caravan variety here - doing it mostly for comedy value - cheap shot of Clarksonesque proportions I admit...

The day I buy a caravan will be the same day I buy a Renault... Just as soon as I'm fit to drive after the sex change operation and there's two moons in the sky. Muhahaha.

The plastic shroud thing over the radiator improves the direction of the airflow to the rad (directs it into and not over the rad) so that makes sense to keep. Takes all of 25 secs to remove in addition to looking stock.
Removing the aux rad is a thing of beauty. 10lbs off the front in addition to much improved airflow.

Could not agree more however, ask the avant owners to answer, hand on heart how many of them had to remove a towbar on purchase ? I know I did
