    turbo fitment angle

will a turbo not operate correctly if not sat upright? my s2 was fitted wit a tubular manifold before i took it back and so when the turbo is fitted it sits 90 degrees from upright.
just trying to suss it out as stu and bo very kindly had a look yesterday as im trying to get to the bottom of having no boost...not even 0.4 mecanical.
perhaps oil not draining thru properly etc

Not an expert but my understanding is that in a turbo with plain bearings the oil is expected to foam at the high RPM involved, hence the large diameter oil return pipe to the sump so the oil foam can drain effectively back to the sump to dissipate. So following that logic, the turbo housing should have the oil return outlet on the bottom.

You are right. You can put snails whatever angle you want, just retain center section pipes geometry as it it on stock manifold.

Interesting - are you saying the shaft is at a strange angle? I would prefer that to sit horizontally (or close to) in an application that sees regular use. If the oil is being pumped in, the return should still be getting pushed back out again, but a nice vertical exit for the oil would clearly allow gravity to aid in returning oil.

If you are not getting any boost at all then you have to stop clutching at the peripherals and look at the source i.e the turbo itself.

Have you checked to see if the inlet shaft is spinning in the turbo and if there is any play?

At worse the turbo could be seized or even worse the blades have broken.

                jamo is right i think.

oil goes in the top and out the bottom on the turbo

take the air feed pipe off. take a pic of the fins. spin it with your finger too.

check that hose for a big issue.

next id say the wastyegate maybe if you haven't checked it. make sure it aint stuck open fully.

oil feed looks to be on a bit of an angle. what this may cause is dry bearings on one side slightly. best to have a vertical feed in.

you should be able to clock that straight.

i really cannot see this being the issue though.

siezing it or doing the besrings in would be noticable in sound. also there may well be oil everywhere in the turbo if this was the case as the seals would have took it.

i can understand your frustration with this one but id be fully inspecting the wastegate, manifold and turbo if you are 100% evereything else is good
