Is an engine rebuild necessary at 156k?

As per title really, the S2 is regretably for sale but an "interested" party has contacted me with a low offer as he is claiming the engine will need rebuilding sooner rather than later, never even seen car and claims he has seen it for sale for a few weeks (only been up for 5 days!)

Has anyone any thoughts? The car runs very well with no nasty noises etc has has a full Audi history, I think that they are talking rubbish myself and have already told them so.

Just wandered what peoples thoughts would be should they aquire a car like mine.

I know if looked after they will go on for a longer than mine is showing.

If the car has received regular servicing with good oil, it will be fine for many more miles. Tell your prospective buyer to do his homework on the car he's buying before making silly offers.

          agree with the above.

Having seen your car in person its in very good condition, if you can afford to hold on I would do, its worth more than what you've put it up for.

          Good luck with the sale

Utter rubbish!! Look at some of the S4s and S6s particularly in the US with the same engine and 2-300k miles. I know people have done headgaskets on 200k+ engines that still have the original honing marks on the cylinder walls! As long as it's not burning oil it should be fine and even then it's most likely valve or turbo seals.

theres plenty around that are on over 200k without having major work,i think yours is well worth the money with it having the RS2 trim.

Poppycock if the car has been looked after. The good old Iron block is as strong as they come.

Engine is just run in. Only thing that might need attention is the headgasket. Mine was weak but not gone at 165k and that was with track work on top.

Thanks guys for basically confirming what I thought! I am lucky enough that I do not have to rush the sale and will wait for the right buyer.

If he really wants to rebuild engines @ that mileage maybe he should be looking at scoobys or cossies instead, put his money where it's probably needed

Sorry to hear you're selling her Paul. She was a great car when I had her and is by all accounts now even better, since you've done the all the proper stuff to her!

And yes, the guy you mention is talking total horlicks. That engine is still tight as a drum, been properly serviced and looked after all of its life. My old UrS4 has now apparently done over 210k and still going strong.

hey! I've had two scoobys at ~ 130k miles and both engines were solid as a rock!
