I don't really know but i would expect that stainless material tends to break rather than bend/stretch. So in the case of failure bend would be not that aweful. I would recommend to always use recommended materials bolted together with the well engineered amount of torque, in the hot areas this becomes important. At least I believe so.

Don't know why you couldn't use Stainless hardware on suspension areas.

I mean, an 8.8, 10.9 or 12.9 bolt holds that standard regardless of the material it's made of.
Or else it wouldn't pass the 8.8 grade testing for an example.

      Bit off topic here, sorry.

hi Alistair, , theres a couple of other places you could price the parts up from, that may be a bit cheaper , 1- LVW Sennars, opposite Wirral Sports , 2- A+B MOTOR FACTORS , just off Hawthorne road, Bootle in the little industrial estate, their very good, prices are usually about as cheap as you can get and better than most, i've sourced a lot of my mi16 bits from them in the past, finally 3- Kingpin- these are on the industrial estate opposite the Jacobs Cracker factory in Aintree, their equally as good if not better than A+B, hope there of some help to you , cheers wez.

i work with stainless nuts and bolts a lot . and you will find that they tend to bind together if over tightened and stip the threads . I wouldn't use stainless fixings if i was you, especially around heat

            You are right.
Stainless bolt on stainless female thread is something to avoid really, as you say stainless on stainless loves to strip threads.

I occasionally use stainless bolts and screws at work and find them very brittle compared to normal med carbon steel. I wouldn't even contemplate use it for exhaust or turbo fixings.
