92 UrS4 2.2t 5spd -> 99 S4 2.7Biturbo Engine-Swap

My engine is acting up and after replacing almost the whole engine it still wont run like it should, so i started to look for a new engine today. Started with the AAN but quickly got interested in the AGB 2.7biturbo engine from B5 S4.

So, my thought was..What if I swap the engine to a 2.7Biturbo instead of the old AAN Is this possible, and what parts is needed to fit the engine in the C4 S4 engine bay?

I want some help to gather info before I start on a project like this. So, please help me get as much info as possible about this sort of engine swap.

I have to say that this would be a cool upgrade to an ageing S4 Avant

will need the whole engine, with loom and ecu, and maybe also the dashpanel insert, due to the communication between it and the ecu (imobilizer). You will need som new engine mounts. It will fit to the tranny. (may need minor mods)

never said the 2.7l was going to be stock for long, just for registration and that paper mess

But, if i do a engine swap i want to build a vw golf mk2 with s2 driveline and the AAN.. Cant have just one projekt..Have a BMW E30 with a insane widebodykit i want to finish to so the projects are many..

I have a 99 s4 2.7biturbo with 160k km complete with harness,ecu etc . Just want to know a little bit more before i end up buying it. Can't buy a engine like this and not put it in to good use

As for the tranny i only need a new flywheel since the engine had a automatic tranny.

Righty, I'm in progress of doing same swap, into UrS4 body shell. It will take some mods, but I think it's doable.

Turbo placement: you need to move turbos to clear steering, or you have to mangle your steering rods.
physical engine placement: you need V6 engine mounts in body, if you want to use "stock" 2,7T flywheel you need 11,2m spacer in between engine and gear box, this also affects your trigger config.
ECU: You can use 2.7T loom and ecu, immo can be disabled, but ABS is another thing. C4 ABS isn't compatible with B5 ecu, so you either need non-esp ecu, or change abs to b5 one.

That's from top of my head, I'll update my project thread as I get something done

Watching this one - some nontrivial challenges to be overcome.

Someone like Mihnea might be able to advise on how to get the 2.7T ECU to stop worrying about ABS - some reverse engineering required there - its not an ECU that I have any experience with so I can't help on that at all... Actually deleting the ABS/ESP functions on that ECU might just be something that can be done by recoding it - maybe - and if so it likely needs passcodes. Could be a lot of pain here...

Maybe its easier to upgrade C4 ABS to B5 ABS as you suggest.

Do the V6 engine mounts bolt right into any C4 quattro chassis or is some cutting/welding required ?

Maybe this engine transplant is simpler into a V6 engined C4 quattro instead of an I5T ?

C4 engine mounts are interchangeable between engines, mounts are just bolted into frame with 3 largish bolts. Also C4 v6 engines mounting arms are likely to bolt to 2.7T engine, as block is infact almost same. With it's own arms it expects that 11,2mm spacer, but I'll have to see what gives, once I have dismantled things and bolted v6 engine mounts into body.

Also it might be that to mount turbo manifolds into engine it needs that spacer, another thing I'll know only after trying to mount engine into there.
