    Diesel in the S2

Now I know that everyone will run for the hills on this one.
I have in the past used a little diesel in petrol engines to give the injectors a good clean.
I had some petrol drained from a vehicle one of my customers had filled his diesel range rover with.
So I decided to stick it in the S2.
Initially it was a little down on power at high revs but once that tank was used and it was refilled with normal 98 ron it seems to be more responsive, more power and much smoother than before.

So I thought I'd post this just to tell you my findings. I feel like I am going to get slated by this statement.......

    What are your thoughts???

Finish all your tank and refill it a couple of times with 98 and look if the problem persist! Maybe is because you still have some diesel in the tank. You may also change the pump filter and fuel filter too to have everything clean! What is the mixture ratio you used between diesel vs. gasoline?

He doesn't have a problem, he used Diesel to clean out lines and it's running fine, he wanted comments on this technique

Curious, does diesel break down the varnish regular petrol leaves behind? I have run very rich mixtures of injector cleaner before. i.e. x10 times the recommended mix. I usually wait until the car is very low on fuel, fill it with cleaner, then drive for 15-20 mins varying load and revs, then fill the tank with fresh fuel. Too much can damage O2 sensors and Cat converters, i would be cautious about running diesel fuel for that reason.

Diesel is very aggressive it's used by garages to clean grimey engine parts in some cases.

Diesel is indeed tremendous stuff for cleaning - its amazing what greasy glar that it can dissolve - for that reason I suppose it could have some injector cleaning qualities that explain your results, but its a bit risky IMHO... Nothing in the S2 fuel supply system was ever designed to have diesel in there.

If your injectors are dirty then commercial products are recommended - in between proper ASNU cleaning/testing of injectors if they are really bad.

diesel id say makes a better engine flush than a injector cleaner.

each to their own. whatever you have confidence in and works

why would they offer a diesel injector cleaner if diesel did such a good job of cleaning stuff am i missing something. What sort of quantity are you talking about using through the S2 too?

I'll wait to be convinced but £60 for an ASNU service seems to be safer maybe....i was happy with the results of mine

I just run a quantity of Red-Line Fuel System Cleaner through mine now and then. Used it for years and it seems to be good stuff.
I'm not brave enough to ever try Diesel.

most major issue i could imagine with diesel is that its rated by how well it will ignite due to compression unlike petrol which rated how well it resists ignition due to compression, id assume with wot and a warm engine which is turbo charged the pressure and heat would be great enough for the diesel to cause knock perhaps. but that may not occur dont really know

as for it cleaning the injectors, would anything that was dissolved in the thinner alkenes and alkanes that make up petrol that fell out of the solution due to the pressure in the lines and injectors would surely not dissolve in the heavier diesel, unless diesel contains other chains that would have greater affinity to the 'varnishes' which is possible to make the diesel burn better due to the different natural of how its used
any chemists on the forum how could explain this

i have cleaned injectors in a ultra-sonic cleaner using white spirit, rigged the injectors to a pump before and after seems made some difference and am tempted to add some to the tank see what it does

as for petrol in diesel, i know audi handbooks of the 80's said in very cold climates to add up to 20% petrol to your diesel stop it waxing...
