    Engine Question

How much power can i obtain with stock engine internal parts for an s2?
    How about the rs2?
    Many thanks,

if you will take some cares with your right foot surelly dont try to go never with stock internals over 380hp....

350cv are amazing numbers if compare it with a new today´s cars...

Stock internals can go over 400 bhp easy just see the 2871 / 3071 turbo threads, it's the torque levels that must be watched.

and what about the "paper" head gaskets from the 3b (all) /aan/aby early cars with this hight power numbers ??

with great power the compression goes up dangerouslly true?? and the stock 9´3/1 ..

and finally in the 3b cars... the rod bearings can work perfectly with the torque of more than 380hp engines?? and the Rods... all the times the poeple said that for more than 400hp always upgrade the Rods...

It's not recommended to run with a paper head gasket at over 1.5 bar and 300 bhp. Audiman has a BTDT.
Although IIRC Søren ran 450 bhp with a stock engine.

Has anyone tried to get over 600 bhp on stock rods? In theory it's possible without exceeding 600Nm and stock rpm limits.
Careful mapping would be required I think.

3B's are a different kettle of fish, the rods are stronger in the 3B not there are other weak spots, paper gasket and bearings really should be uprated to ABY / RS2 spec.

Then there's the spark hop issue which I can explain being an ABY owner.

I haven't seen any difference on the 3b vs aby rods when I've disected engines..
And a friend of mine with low backpressure (big truck turbo) drove 11.01 on the dragstrip, approx 550 hp in that car. with stock internals, 240000 km on the engine. he also ran with nos.

Early boost , like high torque from low rpm, and high revs kills the stock rods imo

I would not go with stock rods if I had bigger turbo than RS2 , I just can't drive carefully.

My car had stock rods with the KKK26/27 in the beginning, it had run with it for 20000km without any problems, but I switched to verdi rods almost instantly, I drove the car much harder than normal ppl

Rpm is the #1 killer of rods (elongation forces from piston inertia), but severe detonation and pre ignition will easily bend them, thus, bent rods are pretty common in turbo circles. High cylinder pressures at low rpm (also known as torque) is the main cause of detonation. Detonation will cause peak cylinder pressures that are 10 times as high as those seen in normal combustion. Even a lightly detonating mixture in normal torque output cylinder will put vastly more compressive force on the rod than even monster torque will load the rod during clean (non detonating) combustion. In addition to being much higher, the detonation induced load is a shock load. However, it is pre ignition, which is often caused by detonation, that is the real bender, as the piston/rod being pushed by the inertia of the entire drivetrain gets the force of the expanding mixture (ignited way too early) smack in the face, causing a tremendous net compressive force on the rod, causing it to buckle.
On Ethanol, I put out approx 550nm at the wheels, translating to close to 700nm at the flywheel on stock rods, with no worries whatsoever, due to the fantastic properties of the fuel.

I think this is a great thread for those who want to upgrade an s2,many thanks to all.
                  Any opinion is welcomed.

So what are you trying to say , that it was alleged that 3B rods were stronger ?

They are the same part number so they must be the same rods .
They have different bearings but the rods themselves are the same.

maybe for today are the same part number about 3b/aby/aan/adu rods...because in the factory only are doing the same for ALL but maybe not in the past...

aniway ,why AUDI made some stronger rods in the 3b cars.. because the next aby´s cars they are supposed an one step up in the evolution of S2 cars... it´s extrange¡¡

Cars are produced with engineers against accountants. As time went by accountants tended to get their way more often. Cheaper materials/parts often means more profit.

Example - Why does the ABY Coupé not have the quattro script in the rear screen? As an improvement?
