Samco Hoses Lower Water Temperature ?

Just fitted a set of cool blue air and water Samco hoses (....thanks Paul) and the temperature has dropped from a constant 90 to about 80.......is this normal?

Oh and why don't the graduations on the water temp gauge go in tens?

Also, had a couple of hairline cracks in the plastic radiator top. Could have been looking at a new rad but I knew someone who used a plastic welding compound....did the trick for a lot less dosh

I take it when you fitted the pipes you flushed everything out (Rad/Matrix) etc?
And when you filled up you used fresh antifreeze etc?

Well if you did it's probably that your cooling system is just working more efficiently

Yeah, because of the leaks in the system I filled up with good quality coolant fairly regularly then dropped the lot out with a lot of sh** out of the rad. So sound like its just working more efficiently

          Samco hoses lower coolant temperature

Further to my last report, I have been running the S2 for 2 months now and the temperature definitely runs roughly 80-85 on A roads and 85-90 in town or after a thrash. Fan cuts in just above 90 perfectly.

Had the joy of replacing the 2 radiators after 2 days of swearing at those horrible inaccessible nuts. Eventually replaced the 2 heater matrix hoses and 2 thermostat hoses that I had put off from the initial install....little boogers they are too. Pics and rant to come on this.

So it seems to be running cooler, which is good.

By the way iain1067, I understand that the function of the thermostat is solely to restrict the coolant to the block whilst getting to temperature. Once it is open, it has no further function. Can't see how it would make the coolant run lower by only part-opening......this would result in higher than normal oil temp surely.....

Should sit at 1 notch below 90, see my thread on normal operating positions of gauges here.

A weak thermostat will manifest itself in a lower running temperature, especially in cooler air, ignore any cool running in freezing, damp conditions tho. Also, a leak in the cooling system will give funny running but if the fan is kicking in at 90+1 then you're all good IMO.
