Oil light on after crash - 100 V6

One of my employees crashed my Audi quattro 100 estate with the 2.7 V6 engine. It was only a small crash at 30 mph into a grass verge about 12 inches high. It has damaged the radiator which i have renewed and everything else is cosmetic. So it starts and runs fine but over 2500 revs the 'dripping red oil can symbol' appears with the warning sounder going. When you slow down again it stops. I have checked the oil filter and assembly which was untouched. Im not sure what this warning is actually for, is it oil pressure or level. The other thing that may be worth mentioning is that the new radiator that i got was not the same as the old one in that there was an extra water pipe going to the oil filter assembly that could not be fitted as there was no connection on the new rad, the guy at the shop said to just blank off the pipe and it will be alright. Has anyone got any sugestions please.

    .

Probably oil pressure...sounds like a warning for not enough pressure at higher revs.

Does the warning sound when you just rev the engine whilst stationary?

Might be bust wire or a connecter has fallen off.

Cant help for locations on that engine though...soz.

Where is the oil cooler on these cars? Maybe he hit it and it's now leaking?

if it only comes on over 2500rpm,s i bet you it is a oil preassure sender... I had the exact same problem on both my golf mk2 16,valves! Quite common problem on those. there is both a low preassure and high preassuer sender so my bet is the high preassure one.

That's true i've seen it before on the Golfs. And it's the exact same system on the Audis, with Low pressure sender for low revs, high pressure sender for high revs. HOWEVER I have also seen these exact symptoms on a CQ that WAS running low pressure, but still just high enough to satisfy the low pressure sender. Started knocking a few weeks later and bottom end was a write off. Unlikely, but not imposible and deffo worth checking.

It may be that in the crash or in replacing the radiator, the wire was knocked off the high pressure oil switch. Suggest you check. Very unlikely that you've actually got a real oil pressure problem.
