Is this a good thing or a bad thing, just bought the wife an A3 1.8tq, with 70k on the clock, i know from other places these engines do suffer a little clogging on the oil pickup, it has a fsh but the oil does look filthy even after 7k miles since it was last changed.
just need some advice as to wether flushing oil is a good thing to do or not.
I'd probably use a flush if the engine wasn't internally caked in old oil (unlikely these days unless the oil's never been changed). Also, as you probably know, best to change the oil every 5k to help prevent problems.
My local Land Rover dealer uses and stocks the Forte flush additive. Not sure if they all do, but could be worth a try if you can't find it anywhere else.
The thing with all these flushes are the oil goes through the turbo, potential for major failure
Yes there is a potential, but it´s WERY small, cause the flushing fluid gets the stuff past cause the oil gets wery thin and makes the debree fall down to the sump WITH the oil as the fluid makes the debree non stickable.
I have tried it about 40-50 times now and no probs what so ever, actually the turbo´s was prettyer inside then before, just make sure you follow the instructions on the bottle and dont just leave it inside the oil for 5 min´s
