Sounds like Graham's has had the rev limit in the ECU significantly dabbled with !!!
8000rpm is OK if you are on the right cams and solid lifters, but I guess that headwork may be required for useful VE at those rpm levels. Dunno if flow is limited by cams or the head itself at that point...
My ECU had not been opened before i got the car, its original chipset was in and the plastic pins were perfect so you could see no one had been in. we socketed it a few years ago and since then i have had a 285Hp chipset put in, but the rev limiter used to work no problems, i still get 1.4 bar boost, and she runs as sweet as a nut. Baffled really

I dont want to drive at 8k, i just wanted to see what the rev limiter was like--and it never happened. My favourite zone is between 3.5 and 5.5k, i change at 5.8-6k generally as i see the boost dropping off to around .8/.9 bar.

the thought ever occured that the revcounter might not show the right number..... happens in my S2 quite often, a decent bang on the dash solves it most of the time, but probably will have to open the dash and fire up the soldering iron....

True, ask Sonic, his was doing this at GTI International last year. It idled at 1200rpm and would go off the clock with a strong blip!

My old cq20v used to come on cam at over 5k rpm and rev past 8k with no sign of a limiter. Then I found a mulitiplug loosely connected under the dash. I pushed it together and that sorted it. Power at just over 4k and limiter at ~6.5k rpm. It didn't seem affect anything else.
