    Earth point on sump

OK, can't find where this comes from

There's a bundle of wires that mount onto one of the oilcooler pipes - a connector for the starter motor, a spade connector I assumed is power for the starter (?) and some sensor at the bottom-left of the block. Can someone confirm this is correct, and help me out with the location of the spade connector that should bolt to the bottom of the sump? I can't find it anywhere and it's doing my head in. Where does it come from??

    Cheers

DOH! you mean the Large ring terminal for engine ground, it will bolt to the block not the sump me thinks.

It's at the bottom of the block not the sump 13mm bolt that goes directly under where the oil cooler pipes connect.

It's a ring connector not spade, only spade on that side goes to the starter

Jon! Heh long time no hear mate. Was thinking back to that late night fitting the GT3071R in your garage, and test driving it with a temporary heat-wrap flexi-pipe... sounded awesome. The thoughts were inspired by the fun task of trying to tighten the 'hidden' 12mm nut on the back of the flexi.. need one of those C-shape spanners I reckon

So that sensor on the block is the oil temp sensor? I've got that plugged in, problem is I can't find the earth wire that connects with a 13mm nut to the underside of the sump...

OK technicalities... that'll be the one Jamo all I know is it was a bit of a bitch to get to and pointing at the floor, there was a connector bolted on with a few inches of thick wire that had been cut. I pulled it off, and can't find where the wire should be on the loom to route to it and connect up! I'd have thought it was with the wires for the starter, oil temp sender but it appears not

hmm the earth strap is a separate wire it's not in the loom.

Have you connected the one that goes to the oil temp sender at the end of the oil pump?

Damn you for making me treck out to the garage in my PJ's! Here's pics of the cables I've attached.

If the earth strap isn't on the loom that explains why i couldn't find it.. question still stands - where the hell does it come from? Where does the other end attach?

O.k earth strap is a separate wire connects to block at the very bottom 13mm bolt just under the oil pipes it then bolts to the chassis above where the oil cooler bolts to the chassis.

Brilliant! That would explain the clip near the oil cooler that looked like a chunky earth wire should be attached to it... have to have a dig around, sorry yeah it's a ring connector I pulled off, I do have a couple of spares so I can always make up an earth cable if needs be.

I'll just PM you next time I have a question Jamo

Secured vac hoses today, must get a bottle of Silkolene on order tomorrow and I think my next job is working on getting the radiator in! Damn it's getting close to that nerve-racking first crank
