rs2 intercooler onto 3b coupe problem

i have an rs2 intercooler and cross member on my 3b coupe, the car came with it fitted but its not quite right, after replacing both engine mounts i went to refit the front crossmember and snubb mount and it was an inch out ! it was in a "forced " position prior to removal, i remember noticing it when i done a cam belt, i "presumed" the early 3b cast mount and steel cup are not compatable to an rs2 cross member, i would of thought the captive nuts are an inch higher on an early car, i have rectified the problem by making a custom front mount, ill move the captive nuts in the crossmember when i have more time then put a standard front cup mount on.

basically wondered if anyone had come across this before, there is nothing wrong with the car , everything lines up ok and an inch is quite a lot!

Not heard of this before. There are plenty of people who have fitted the same items, will be interesting to see what they say...

I've got the RS2 intercooler and crossmember on my 3B and I didn't have any problems with alignment, sounds like something is wrong if it's an inch out.

aren't there different snub mounts for a/c and non a/c cars though? Is that something to do with it?

That's the bracket that bolts to the engine. The AC one has the bracket for the compressor on it, the non AC one... doesn't. They sit in the same place as the XMs are the same.

Engine mounts the wrong side of the mountings? 6 speed box on 5 speed subframe?

                i had a similar issue.

fitted the motorsport spec mounts and it was all out of alignment. as if they are taller but aren't. the standard xmemebr has an adjustabel bracket. mine was within spec of that.

it was a pig to fit the xmemebr back on again i rememer that.

engine mounts on wrong side wouldnt be possible as the chassis it folded, and also it would not be an inch
ps its all origonal box etc

ok , heres something thrown in to the puzzle
if the engine was sitting an inch higher at the front the cam belt cover at the front would be sitting higher and there would be clearance issues
i removed the cup again and saw that at some piont the car had been run without the cup mount , but with the rubber snub fitted, you could see this because of the almost perfect circle rubbed through the paint where the snub mount had been chaffing , this mark was not inline with the 2 captive nuts it was about an inch higher so it doesnt matter if new or old mounts are used , it just became more apparent with new mounts.....

                          think i found problem ,
the 3b has a bolt on " cup" that surrounds the rubber snub mount
the rs2 and maybe later cars just has a " n shaped " plate go around the rubber mount
thats why i can see the painr rubbed off
the rear of an rs2 crossmember can be seen here
